Ripoff, sending me to poorhouse

The above company needs an accountant or CPA to look into their math abilities. I went over my credit limit due to finance charges and a late fee back in September. I have since paid them $785.00 and am still over my credit limit! I have not used the credit card in all this time!!!

I was told back in October that if I paid $245.00 through a direct bank withdrawal, things would be straightened out. I did this and obviously it didn't help at all. I've called customer service and have been told I'm over my limit and they were unwilling to assist with the problem other than to say pay the amount over the limit and the minimum payment. On my February statement, I was told my balance was $3099.71 (my credit limit is $3000.00). I sent them $200.00.

When I received my next statement it said the balance was $3035.97. How is this feasable? When I again called customer service, the automated system said my balance was $3069. And change. I called the day I received my statement. Are they charging overlimit fees daily? There is absolutely no way I should be over my limit.

I canceled my card, but I'm not sure what recourse I have with them. If I had the money, I'd pay $2900, but not a penny more. I will probably end up with a horrible credit rating after working so hard to build my credit, but I am refusing to pay any additional fees.

If anyone has any legal suggestions, I'd appreciate the input. Don't ever agree to get a Direct Merchants Bank credit card... They will send you to the poor house!
