I have heard other complaints concerning Fifth Third Bank overdraft Rip-offs. I too have had rediculous overdraft fees charged to my checking account. I also have "Overdraft Protection". I thought it was a wise thing to have until I was suddenly charged a total of $90 in fees for a $6.00 overdraft. I knew I had little money in my account, (which unfortunately is usually the case) but I also knew that I was not overdrawn.
At the time I had 25.00 (unspoken for) in my account. When I called Fifth Third they told me that I was $1000 over limit and that they had deducted a $31.00 fee because of it. I feel they should have notified me of this long before I was this far overlimit. I also feel I should have been informed that there were penalties for overlimit and what the limit was when I agreed to sign up for the overdraft protection. I was told I would pay something like $10 a month for the protection, that's all.
I wanted to close my account right away but didn't have the $1000 to do so. I am currently $2000 overlimit. I pay the monthly fees whenever I can but can never get under limit let alone pay the whole thing off so the fees just keep accumulating.
Has anyone else had this problem?
