Fred Hanna and his goons are one of the worst in the collection attorneys. They use the courts to intimidate people into signing consent agreements and paying old debts that they may not owe on behalf of Unifund. Unifund is notorious for tinkering with people's credit reports. There have been a lot of class action lawsuits against Unifund regarding their collection practices.
Hanna & Unifund love to use the court system to intimidate you into signing a consent agreement agreeing to pay a debt that you may not owe or an old debt where they are charging you unfair interest.
Unifund does not send demand letters so that you can respond via certified mail and dispute their claim as they are suppose to do under the FDCPA a federal law. The letters they file with the courts a bogus and the consumer never received them. They print the letters up before they have their attorneys go and file a lawsuit.
Most of the time the credit report is the basis of their lawsuit. They are in collaboration with the original creditor so they will tinker with your credit report and any thing else to extort money out of consumer whether it is legal or not.
Challenge everything you receive from Fred Hanna and Unifund. Don't give in to them and let them use the courts to intimidate you. If they file a lawsuit against you file an answer and make them go to trial and prove their case before a judge. They love to take advantage of people who can not afford to fight their lawsuit.
They also love to go after consumers for trivial amounts so that attorneys will not help you fight their lawsuit. File an answer and make them prove their case. Don't let them call you or send any correspondence to get you to back down stand your ground because they will tell you anything to get you to pay. Sometimes when you challenge them you are able to get them to back down.
If you have unfair dealings with Hanna and/or Unifund please write to the Federal Trade Commission, Your local consumer protection agencies, your local bar association, your attorney general's office, and your state supreme court. The more people that complain they will do something about them and hopefully put Hanna and his buddies at Unifund out of business and/or in jail.
It is better to file complaints in writing because you can also send them copies of documents that can be used against them so please send your complaints to those agencies in writhing along with any supporting documents.
The actions of Fred Hanna & Associates and Unifund amount to unfair and deceptive business practices, violations of the FCRA and the FDCPA, and racketeering (extortion).
