I worked for granton marketing for about two years. When i started i was definetly in a position to get scammed. My mom had passed away 4 months earlier. I was left w / a sister to help raise a teenager, and my dad w / parkinson's. I was "fear of lossed" (so they teach you) for a full time job.
I went in for an interview the manager was my age 24 years old dressed very sharp. He looked like he made money. Stupid me. He had a partner heath kotula in thw same office again very sharp guy. Ihave no idea what the hell he said. He talked so fast. All i know is i was in the next day showing hey, i am a hardworker on a day of o. To all people who don't know the juice lingo its day of observation. So the office was filled with what appeared to be tons of young people some who had no idea what professionalism even was.
My named gets called and i am brought in to a room filled with a bunch of people who looked like men in black. All serious straight faced trying to be someones they weren't. Anyhow, so off i go into a truck with like 7 guys in it. Hello! First flag where are we going? They tell me brooklyn to service one of there accounts pizza hut. I didn't believe these guys worked for some of the clients they mentioned so i questioned them. But they were trained very good.
They even had a "leader's log" with all the companies logos. So i bought it. It is true granton mktg does have a large portifolio but shame on them. So in brooklyn i find out we are going door to door residential in the projects!!! By the way these guys work so hard in the field really it is a shame the amount of time and energy that is wasted selling for these people.
That day iasked do i have to go to the projects to sell? No they told me its just to see what i was made of.
The only reason i asked was because this dummy made $150.00 dollars talking to people about pizza. He rang the bellfor the day (symbol of success 10-15 sales). So unemployed dummy me takes the job. Mind you i had to memorize the cult lingo the five steps to a conversation, and the 8 steps to success, aka doorman one on one training. I got robbed in the field one day in manhattan. Still hung in for the opportunity i was fed. I recruited guys on my crew and was up to 10.
I even received a top leader award at the rally right when dsmax and granton split as a company. Well my manager's business under advertising sunk and he refused to go on a retrain and he quit. So into execucard i went. These guys thought they were special cause they begged for money door to door in business's. Hello control your ego its all the same. The 5,8, and the 4.
Well the meetings in the morning were great and i was motivated when i felt that the managers could relate to me and that they were good people. So time passed me by. People came and went and when people quit they hit the negative right on. They tell you oh its more opportunity for you, and i would do anything to get my guys to management, etc... Well what gets you to management? I tell you hope and dreams. That's it and a big fat juice. Join us in cheating everyone. Well you need to have 4 teamleaders. Four people to sell three different campaigns and ring the bell on each. Not that hard put away your textbooks. Next you have to have one of those people train one more chump to become a leader as well. Then as a sell guru team you must sell 400 pieces for two weeks in a row. Wham!!!
Now your assistant manager in the office. The hours seem to get longer as you advance. 6:30 am - 7:00 pm. Its like a cult. You barely have time to sleep, and wash your you know what. But it designed that way for two reasons: your salary as a manager depends on what your guys sell. That sucks granton is cheap. And if you had more time with your family you probably would't come in the next day. All i know is when i started to see managers come out of the ny location and back in the field rebuilding their whole office i started to wonder you never get out of the field. The definition of insanity is to repeat the same action over and over again with the same results. That is working for granton marketing.
You get nowhere fast. I just did my taxes and i am 25, when your 19 year old sister mades more money than you that is sad. That's what happen to me. I don't think the managers of the company peter howely, and heath kotula, or even mike t are bad guys. I think they are getting promises made to them as well from granton mktg's top guru's. The truth is if granton marketing really cared about the people that represent them they would offer the managers 401k plans, benefits, even company cars. All the managers well most of them have families, kids and if they don't make it their wives are going to have to start selling shit as well.
I learned in live take everything eith a grain of salt (even my report). I didn't take with me some things that have made me a better more goal oriented person, but as far as money i made more at 19 and buy the way i hit century club in my career at granton. I rang the bell on any campaign i went on, and i received another top leader award this past december. So to anyone who has a job interview with these people please go with your gut it'd everything you thought it was. Run, and never look back.
Ps. To the managers if you guys ever read this i'm just letting you know as well you work to hard to be taking advantage of by granton mktg and you too are being brainwashed. Hope you get help soon.
