I have recently paid off my American Express credit card. The conditions of the pay off were in a letter sent to me that stated if I were to pay it off by January 15, not only would my card be renewed, the limit would be raised, and I would also receive a calling card from AT&T. The calling card was based on the pay off. For example if you had a $100 balance, you would receive 5 minutes for every $10. So a $100 pay off would be worth a 50 minutes. I paid off the credit card and not only did they deny giving me the offer, but also said it never existed. Now I have a sample card they sent to me with the letter that stated the terms of the pay off, which by the way has an AT&T logo along with the American Express logo. Despite that evidence and the fact they called to confirm I received the letter I now have to write letters to American Express, Better Business Bereau, and Consumer Affairs just to be heard. Any suggestions would be appreciated and other stories of Credit Card companies promising something in return for pay offs would be great. Watch out for American Express!
