I initiated a mortgage loan with Nations Choice mortage on 11/29/04 with a Good Faith Estimate of 5.5% interest rate and no points and a promise by Paul Green to get everything done in 30 days. I sent back all of the paperwork in a timely matter and waited.
A week before we were to close, a called Paul to get the loan documents so we could get funded on time. He assured me everything was fine and that all the paper would be ready "tomorrow or the next day". This went on between myself, my real estate agent and Paul for several more days with no loan documents given to us.
Finally, ON THE DAY OF CLOSING, as I'm packing to move, Paul Green calls me in the morning saying that we have a problem. They now tell me I have to pay an extra 1/2 point because our home is listed as a condo rather than a townhome and that I recently switched jobs. Being a physician, my income level is not an issue. Plus he knew all this information the week prior when I spoke with him when he had said everything was going well.
This folks, is a SCAM. On the last day of your escrow, when you are desperate to close, they hit you with these phony reasons and add an extra 1/2 point. What choice do I have at this point? I paid the 1/2 point and am getting in touch with my lawyer as we speak.
Don't let them get you. Don't deal with this shady group. I'm just sorry I didn't read these other consumer complaints earlier.
