Extremely poor site design, illogical payment options, incompetent customer service

I wish someone had warned me of the poor service and products that Sallie Mae offers for student loans. I had no idea that when I paid thousands of dollars toward my loans that were NOT yet in repayment, none of that money would go towards the principle balance, only to interest. I felt that I wasted all that time and money repaying interest that wasn't even due.

On top of that, the customer service is not US based and you're always speaking to someone with an accent that can only offer perfunctory responses to your questions, after your fifteen minute hold time.

I find that the site is ill equipped for repayment. For some reason my loans are grouped together instead of individual, so if I want to make a payment to one loan, I have to snail-mail a check. You also cannot make a payment to principle only unless you mail a check and write in BIG, BOLD, UNDERLINED letters that this is for principle only. Even after that, it's a crap-shoot whether or not the payment is appropriated correctly.
