' Stages of Beauty ' based in Cambridge, MA offered a free trial size of their face cream which I decided to try. I received it just the day before going on a trip. There were no ingredients listed on the product, and being health conscious, I never use anything when a company does not disclose the ingredients they use in their products, so I threw it out, figuring I only wasted $4.99 for shipping & handling, and that I was done with it. When ordering the 'free trial' I did not see the clause about autoshipping one jar every month if I didn't cancel within 18 days of receiving the sample. If I had seen the 'autoship' clause, I never would have order it in the first place, as I travel so much.
When I returned home from my trip, I was surprised to find a new package from the company with another larger jar of their product which I knew I had not ordered, showing a charge of $74.98 to my charge card. I figured they made a mistake. I called the company & talked with a rep who firmly refused to issue a refund for the jar they sent which I had not ordered.
I looked at the ingredients which were printed on this jar, only to see that the cream was full of harmful chemicals and petroleum based ingredients which have been linked with numerous illnesses which I wouldn't use on my skin under any circumstances! The refusal of the company to not issue a refund in light of the circumstances (as well as the non-disclosure of the ingredients in the sample of their product, only later to find that there are harmful ingredients in it) leads me to conclude that this is not an ethical company.
