I used to be an employee at Puppy Love. Please keep in mind the groomers are private contractors, bathers are hourly. The Groomers are not allowed to make their own schedule, not allowed to call off certain days, for example, birthdays, and are required to clean the whole shop at closing. The owners refuse to close themselves, and in the rarity that they do, they refuse to do closing duties). The owners of PL, Melissa and Rick mistreat their employees. They are married, and when they work together, all day they constantly fight, call eachother names, cuss, scream and yell at eachother. Neighboring businesses have came into our shop to tell them to stop yelling and cussing. Our neighbor business is a day care and a dance studio with children. Melissa and Rick also bring their private lives into work by talking about how unsafe their family is and telling us to call the cops on them if they show up at the shop. Their sister has come into the shop and started lies and gossip about people, saying this employee said this about that employee when it never happened. I have been accused of saying things when it was not true. Melissa and Rick will also reprimand their employees infront of customers and other employees. Multiple employees have experienced being badmouthed about by Melissa and Rick when they are not working that day.in a meeting they have said, "If we ever talk about people behind their back, don't go to that person and tell them." I have experienced this myself as well. They also bad mouth every person that has quit or has been fired, and every former-employee has "stolen something". They also love to call people in on their scheduled days off, and one such employee was fired for not wanting to come in on his day off. He was replaced by a new bather the same day, and then rehired with less hours. Mainly 16 hours a week at most. He only worked for a couple weeks after that, then Melissa and Rick told one of the current employees to text or call him to tell him he is fired. When discussed, they admit to firing him for not liking who he was as a person.instead of asking politely, they will immediately accuse people of stealing when wittnesses have seen Melissa or Rick misplace items, but when items are found they accuse other people about not putting stuff away in the right place. Melissa and Rick do not properly train new employees. They leave it up to other employees to train new people, and those new people get scolded for not doing things right. For example, Melissa will tell one employee to do something a certain way, and Rick will scold that employee for doing it wrong. What has also happened is Rick will say to do something, then Melissa will tell that employee not to do it. It seems the married couple are not on the same page. They leave rediculous signs all over the shop, including one that is titled "Towel Folding 101" with a diagram on how to fold towels THEIR way. (Not to mention, their way of folding towels makes it hard to neatly stack them in our already small cabinet.) Anytime someone doesn't fold a towel the way they want to, they are immediately lectured in the middle of the groomshop infront of customers and employees. When they are mad, they slam things around, they snap at people for no reason. At work, they constantly complain about wanting to go home, and they will push their work off to other employees so they can leave early. On their days off, they will come in randomly and bark orders to everyone to do closing duties when we are 4 hours from closing. If they do come in on their days off, later in the week they will complain that they havent had one day off for over a week, and when we mention the days off they had but they come into the shop, they accuse us of being lazy and that we never want to work. They play favourite's over employees. Employees who have worked their less time than employees who have worked longer get to pick whatever schedule they want to work, and are given special privelages (for example ask for a day off to have dinner with family) where as if other people asked for a day off, they are scolded for being lazy and accused of "always ask for days off". Employees who have recently visited the ER, or have medical testing done requiring they stay home for acouple days after, are harrassed about coming into work after their medical testing is done the same day. However, if you tell them you can't work because of it, they demand to see your medical paperwork containing what the medical testing is for to see if THEY think it's important enough to take off work. If you ever approach one of the owners about a complaint of being cussed at or mistreated somehow, their famous line is "This is how we run our business. If you don't like it, there's the door." One employee approached them about them (the owners) constantly threatening people about firing them if they don't know how to do simple things like fold towels in their way, and the owners replied "Everyone here needs to know they're replaceable." Multiple employees have said they fire people over text or by telling other employees to tell that person they are fired. A lot of employees are having a hard time finding alternate jobs so they are stuck working there because they can't afford to quit. They also pay hourly employees under the table to avoid paying taxes.
