Having been ruled disabled after retiring from the United States military and pursuing disability compensation, I was unable to continue providing financial support for my ex-spouse and family to continue meeting her mortgage payments. My joint property became an apparent target through loan modification efforts to please my ex-spouse, with convincing telephone conversations and assurances.
The latest modification caused me to contact Midland and gather further information relating to this nearly paid-off mortgage. It was at this time I discovered this company had re-mortgaged nearly 20 years of equity in this property. Whether this was an intentional act or preying on very unknowing property owners must be determined. Upon confronting my ex-wife, I requested a historical payment record on this joint property.
I am currently awaiting further correspondence so I might be able to obtain legal counsel. I am convinced that there has been some less than "helpful" guidance in this matter. If you have any dealings with this company, please be very careful and stay on top of any financial dealings of any nature. It was a painful experience to speak with their representative and have them basically admit their ultimate goal was to gain control of all equity in this property during my financial struggles. I am currently seeking legal advice.
