I had an ice dam, and water backed up at the ceiling and at the top of the wall, and the paint bubbled and so on. They came out and had a mold company cut four large 2-foot-by-2-foot holes in my wall to inspect, then left it open. A week and a half went by, and I called to ask what was going on. They said they would find out. I had to call them again at the end of the second week, and they told me the adjuster who came out was on vacation for 2 weeks. After the third week, I had to call them again. He never showed, and they said they were sending me a $340 check, and the estimate of repairs was $1700. I was left to find my own repairman to put back my drywall or do it myself, which I ended up doing, as I could not afford to take any more chances or losses.
I was going to drop this company just for leaving my musty wall open in my home for 3 weeks, but I did not shop around until I found out 7 months went by. My mortgage company said my escrow account was running out. I asked why, and they said, "WOW, YOUR INSURANCE WAS $680 AND WENT UP TO $1470 PER YEAR. THAT IS MORE THAN DOUBLE!!! WHO IN THE WORLD WOULD AGREE TO THAT??? NOT I."
Allstate told me to call my agent. He was worthless. In fact, he told me, "I don't blame you for looking elsewhere. I would be mad too. That is a high price. I wish I could change the price, but I don't make them. There was an across-the-board rate hike, and the claim you had..." I cannot believe the sales guy who works for Allstate would just say, "Wow, I don't blame you."
I look forward to seeing Allstate fail and go down. It will happen when enough people quit them. I advise anyone to run now to another company. If you use them one time, it will cost you so much, and their rates are higher than other companies' to start. Just look online at all the complaints. Sad company. I have so much more to say. The guy who comes out to look is not experienced. He was asking me for ideas to fix it. Just all-around bad company.
