I left my money in Bank of Buckhead at 3920 Piedmont Road, Atlanta, GA, USA in 1998, in a CD and a checking account. Then I went overseas to India for four years.
Bank of Buckhead became BB&T. I never received timely reporting on my accounts, nor was I advised of the status of my CD and checking account. I had to do a lot of "chasing," calling from overseas and writing letters. Finally, I began receiving my statements.
After I moved to Canada, I asked for my money to be wired from there to my Canadian account. Needless to say, I had to contact them multiple times by email, fax and letter to get it. I still have not received a statement of closure. I also have not received a clear explanation of the "interest" the bank paid me, the "fees they charges me," or how my money never "grew" as the bank had promised me!
I have sent multiple emails and letters to the Branch Head and Vice President Ron Altman. He never responds to either one.
Below is my last email, which they also have not bothered to answer. Ron Altman says to contact Personal Banking Assistance, Sybil Payne. Sybil Payne says to contact Diane Chambers. Diane Chambers never responds.
"Could you please provide me an IMMEDIATE response to the email request below? I have not received any reply from [email protected] nor Sybil. [email protected]. Is there a reason for not responding to it?"
The earlier emails, newest first.
On Dec. 8 I wrote: "Hello, could you please provide me a signed statement of account closure and a final statement to the following two addresses, as soon as possible? What is your earliest convenience to provide it to me?"
On Dec. 2 Sybil Payne wrote: "Hello... Please refer to Diane Chambers for future references. Thank you."
On Dec. 1 I wrote to Sybil Payne: "Hello, happy Thanksgiving! As yet, I have not received a reply to my email of 22 Nov. Is there a reason for it? Can you please mail me (by post and email) a final statement of my accounts indicating all itemized deductions and interest earnings?"
On Nov. 22 I wrote to Ms. Payne: "Is my checking account and CD account with BB&T closed as of now? Have you sent me all my monies? Can you please mail me (by post and email) a final statement indicating all itemized deductions and interest earnings? What is your earliest convenience to send the requested information to me?"
On Nov. 19 at 8:25 PM I wrote to Ron Altman, with a copy to Sybil Payne: "Please inform me as soon as possible. I need to proceed on the withdrawal quickly."
On Nov. 17 I wrote to Ms. Payne: "(1) I shall look forward to a reply from you at your earliest convenience. Has the money been credited into my checking account? Do you have an (800) toll-free number or website where I can check on it on an automated telephone system or through internet access from overseas? What is my checking balance now that the CD has been closed and the money transferred into my checking account? (2) Is the dormant status removed on my checking account? Is there a fee that has been charged to me for the dormant status and its removal? (3) I need some funds now. Can you electronically wire transfer the money to my account, using the signed original letter and fax (of the same letter) I sent you? Do you need another letter from me? The reason I prefer the wire is because it appears to be a safer mode of transfer, and the funds are available to me in my Canadian account sooner. (4) Thank you. Have a good evening."
On Nov. 13 at 6:25 PM I wrote to Sybil Payne: "(1) You mentioned: 'YOUR ACCT IS CURRENTLY IN DORMANT STATUS.' Questions: Can you remove the 'dormant' status on my account? Is there anything I can do to have the dormant status removed? (2) You mentioned: 'BANK POLICY REQUIRES CLIENTS TO SIGN WIRE REQUEST IN PERSON.' Question: Can you do it with the faxed, emailed and postal-mailed signed request? (3) As per earlier emailed and written communication from you and Ron, my understanding has been that all you need is a signed request from me. I have postal mailed the original of the fax to you on 11 Nov. 2002. To come in person would be expensive and difficult. Questions: Alternatively, can you terminate the CD and put the money into my checking account? Will I be able to write a good check on the account to transfer monies into my account? (4) I shall look forward to a reply at your earliest convenience."
On Nov. 12 at 10:03 PM I wrote to Sybil Payne: "Good morning. (1) I have faxed you the letter. Please provide me an acknowledgement. (2) The original of this faxed request has been mailed to you by post on 11 Nov."
On Nov. 7 at 7:53 PM I wrote to Sybil Payne: "Hello. (1) Fine. What is your fax number? (2) I still do not have an answer to the other questions in the earlier email. Can you please answer them? These are repeated below for you."
