Ripoff Charge Credit Card without Authorization

Star of David picked up our items on June 20. The total for everything was $1537, we paid $106 using credit card, for the deposit, and $570 cash at the time of pick-up. The balance remaining was $861, required at delivery time, by cash or money order, as stated in the contract. The Order of service said that the items would be delivered within 3-21 days. But goods were delivered on August 01, after 40 days.

We called them several times asking them where our things were and how long it would take for us to receive them, but they always talk to us rudely and provide some lame excuse for the delay. They asked us NOT to call every other day, asking when we will receive our belongings. Once they even mentioned that the delivery within 21 days is not guaranteed.

On the delivery day, the truck driver arrived without the delivery crew. Star of David was supposed to hire a local moving company so they can unload the truck, but didn't. The truck driver, a third party, hired two men after waiting for a while. The truck driver was very angry with Star of David, as all the customers were complaining to him about the company's horrible service.

All the customers, he delivered to, were unhappy with the damage to their goods and the time it took for delivery. We were so disturbed after looking at our things that we decided that we do not want them. Everything was either broken, damaged, or dirty. We called the Star of David right away. They were very rude as usual.

We complained that everything was damaged and we did not want them. They said they will put our stuff in storage and deliver it another time and charge for storage and redelivery or to pay them the remaining balance whether we want our things or not. Then, we asked about our insurance plan in the contract. They said they will mail us the claim form for insurance, which we are still waiting for.

The truck driver told us that he would not unload our things until we pay the balance or if local police asked him to unload without payment. Some state law do not allow the moving company to hold the customer's belonging hostage, without payment. We called the police., After listening to our story, the policeman talked to the moving company (Star of David) informing them of the situation of the goods and all. The Policeman told us that Star of David will resolve the issue with us directly and we do not have to pay anything now (as we have already paid about half the amount for the service). He then asked the truck driver to unload our things.

Without our consent, Star of David charged our credit card (full amount = $861) that same day, right after they talked to us. They did not tell us, on the phone, they were charging it on our credit card. We did not even imagine this could ever happen. Besides, any merchant, who has our credit card details, should not have the right to charge any amount without our knowledge or permission. Especially, when we had just talked to Star of David, that day, about this issue, they didn't once mention they would charge it if we didn't pay at time of delivery.
