My husband and I planned for a year for a 2 & 1/2 week vacation in Florida, traveling to Miami by plane then by car to Orlando and then cruising over to the Bahama's. When we got back, our next stop was the Florida Key's. We had reservations for a few months before we arrived at the Cheeca Lodge, We had to save plenty of money to as they charge $300.00 per night and that is in the off season.
The people there were nice and we did have a pleasant time but the day we were leving we discovered that someone had been into my jewelry. They did not have safes in the rooms so I had placed it in it's carrier on the top shelf of the closet.
I changed one piece of jewelry the whole time we were there. Well I was not sure what was missing and we were packed (I always carried my jewelry, myself) and ready to check out. We went to the desk and told them what had happened and they said to go on to Key West and take an inventory of my jewelry and call them if anything was missing. Well, only about$10,000.00 worth of my jewelry was gone. I called up there and was told that they would have to do an investigation and for us to stop back by when we returned from Key West. We stopped back there and they were not ready for me and asked me if I could come back the next day.
The next day they called and we told him to go ahead and call the police so that we could make a report. We went down there and he still has not called the police so we had to wait in the lobby for the deputy to arrive for 45 minutes. We filed a report and told our side of the story. The security officer just mostly hung his head.
Well, we finally made it back home. I filed a loss with the insurance company and they didn't want to pay. I was asked why Cheeca Lodge wasn't paying anything by my insurance agent. I had a seperate personal property policy with them so I thought that they were supposed to pay.
Well, Cheeca Lodge lied on their Security reort and made up all kind of things that was not done or if it was done they claimed different. I never saw a manager even though I asked for one several times. One of the security guard's said "She did it" referring to me!
Well, the theft was September 1st and now it is March 25. State Farm insurance put us under investigation so far that we felt like lab rats. We have had to give sworn twstimony, all financial records for the last 3 years and many other humiliating, embarrasing days have followed.
I finally had to hire a lawyer and the ins. Company finally after all these months made an offer. It is about half of the retail price. I contacted Peter Henry, General Manager at Cheeca Lodge and he will not help in any way. He says that he believes the security man's report and pretty much put me down through the whole letter. So, now I have to hire my lawyer back to go after Cheec Lodge.
Cheeca Lodge & Spa is where President Bush spends Thanksgiving, Bonefishing. So they believe that security is fine. Well it may be for them but I am still short on reimbursement and mighty mad. They think they can get away with this THEFT. Well I am pretty sure that I know who did it and when. Beware and don't wear expensive jewelry if your going to stay there, you will see a thief in the mix of them!!!
