Super 8 Motel
Credit card scam

When returning home from Mexico, my parents stayed at the above mentioned motel on June 7. When they returned home I was given the credit card reciepts to check against the statement that I pay each month. I had the reciept for the amount of charged for the room. I did not have a reciept for an additional charge of $100.00 that was on the statement.

When we called the motel in question, we were advised that the "bedspread" was missing, and that the charge was for that item.

My mom explained to them that the evening they stayed with them, they did not have enough room to spread out the luggage and that she had folded the spread, and placed it in the dresser drawer. I suppose the clean up personnel could not find the spread, and automaticly assumed that it was stolen by my parents. We were informed that the charge would be removed. This never happened.

It required written letters, e-mails and finally VISA charging back the charge to the motel because they refused to answer the complaint. A period of nearly 3 months aggravation just to get the charge from the account.

Super 8 home office was not overly concerned with the matter. Their answer was that all of the motels are franchised, and they do have control over them.

First of all, I personally feel that when they placed the additional $100.00 charge to the account, just because they happen to have the credit card number, they were breaking the law. It seems to me this is fraud, even if an article were stolen. It makes me angry that they even assume someone stole an article without any proof whatsoever.

Let this be a warning to all, CHECK YOUR CREDIT CARD STATEMENTS. Especially if you have dealt with Super 8 Motels. I am thinking that maybe they have a little scam going on, esspecially when dealing with senior citizens whom they feel may not check them too closley.

I have notified the Texas Attorney Generals office of this scam, but of this date have not recieved a reply.
Don't let Super 8 catch you sleeping.
