As a member of II, we like to travel on various getaways when we can afford it. Several months ago after much research we booked a get a way in Mexico for Villa Del palmar at about $600 bucks. We trusted the description that the Interval International travel company gave about this resort including its high rating.

It was sold as a luxury resort with an excellent beach atmosphere. When we checked in we felt as if we had died and gone to hell. The room was miserable - bugs on the floor - cobwebs next to the old fashioned microwave - dirty dishes in the cabinets - then a walk on the beach was frightful - the "beach" was only a few feet of sand that had trash everywhere and vendors everywhere else.

We hurried back to the lobby to complain to the manager - with no luck of course. Then we called II and explained what happened. They said there was nothing they could do because it was a getaway. Our problem is that they rated this resort as a high red resort and it was more like the dollar store of resorts.

We were so upset that we left two hours later and paid full price for another resort. We lost all of our money on the get a way but felt it was a better deal than losing our lives in this obvious hell hole. Be very careful before you trust a rating system - even one with the reputation of Interval International.
