Guaranteed rental income, one month notice to rent, too good to be true, none of it was Quintana Roo

My son and I were visiting Playa and having the time of our lives. We got talked into visiting a timeshare presentation to get free transportation to Koba.

The presenter (Tiffany) promised rental income, managed in-house, that more than paid for the purchase. The two bed, two bath unit was very nice, good ocean views, and could be split so that we could use one side and rent the other, still coming out even.

The first year we couldn't use the unit and informed them to keep the unit in the rental pool, but did not receive rent. I called and got some runaround but no information. The second year we called in January to reserve for April, and were told that they were all booked up.

We then got a bill for the maintenance fee which I foolishly paid.

With persistant phone calls we were told that we had to handle rentals ourselves, but that they received a lot of reservations from vacationweeks.com. Larry Peters represented that he was the President and that if we would "join" their organization for $600.00 they would handle rentals for us for life. Unfortunately, I complied, and they no longer answer calls or email.

We did receive a request for a special assessment after a hurricane went through, which we declined. Starting to catch on after having been far too trusting.

We have just received notice for another maintenance fee, which we would obviously (by now) be foolish to pay. At this point what we want is to recover our money and be out of the scam, and help keep others from falling prey to these vultures.
