In I made reservations to fly from St. Louis to Frankfurt and back using the cheap tickets website. A medical emergency required that I cancel my trip. I was informed that I had a year to rebook the trip using the credit for my original trip but that I would have to pay a $200 rebooking fee and an additional $50 processing fee.
When I rebooked the trip 10 months later, I never received confirmation. I called and had difficulty getting through. I then sent a web-based e-mail query. When I failed to receive a response within a few days, I called cheap tickets. After long periods on hold and several times being cut-off, I was informed that my reservation had never gone through.
I then invested hours on the phone rebooking my flight. I was told that the $200 rebooking fee and $50 processing fee would be waived and that my originally paid fare would cover the flight.
I just received my credit card bill and found that I have been charged an amount a few dollars short of my original fare. This is in addition to my original payment! I called cheap tickets asking for an explanation. I was told that this amount covered the difference between my original fare and the actual fare. I explained that I had never agreed to this. Cheap tickets insisted that I had originally agreed to this when I first rebooked my ticket.
This is a big scam. Cheap tickets had no interest in listening to me.
In all, I invested close to 2 days on the phone with different cheap tickets agents trying to rebook my reservation. I had to recount the same facts with each agent I spoke with. I was constantly put on hold, sometimes for 30 or more minutes. Many times I was cut-off while on hold. Different agents gave me conflicting stories. Even setting aside the rip-off that I experienced, the customer service is very unreliable.
