I was at the Taboo trade show at the Vancouver Exhibition Centre with some friends of mine. We saw they had a booth there to enter to win a contest to win a vacation for two to Florida, we all entered never thinking we would win. Well almost a week later, we did win, all of us, and fortunately we are roommates so when they called each one of us it was within 10 minutes of each other we knew something was up.
Unfortunately for my friend's boyfriend he was called as well and had been blindsided by thier offers of vactions that he had won (one of my roomates entered her boyfriend in the contest as well) he had given them his credit card # to "secure" his trip and promotional fee.By the time he realized that it wasn't such a good deal, and TOLD them to rip up his credit card information, and not to charge him anything, they had already tried his card for $2700, then $1000 and then $900 until they had gotten his card to go through. After he got off the phone he had immediately gotten on the phone with his credit card company and told them to that there was a dishonourable charge on his card and to cancel his card altogether.
One of the only reasons that this scam was allowed to go so far with my friends boyfriend as to get his credit card# is the fact that it was at a reputable trade show in vancouver in one of the biggest trade show venues here. They come every year, we have since made them aware that this "company" is a HUGE SCAM, but as I write this right now, the Taboo show is travelling across Canada, to Calgary and all the way to Toronto, I just hope that someone sees this before they get ripped off by them too.
