In April, this company used a telemarketing call to sell a resort vacation in Breckenridge Colorado. Following discussion, I agreed to purchase a 2-day, 3-night package. I agreed to attend their marketing presentation on-site, and they offered 4 one-day passes to Copper Mountain Ski Resort.
I was offered a studio apartment for $169, or an upgrade to a 2-bedroom unit for an additional $99. I was told that the upgrade was subject to availability, but time of year was not an issue.
When I called back in June to confirm our selected dates, I was told that because this was "prime" ski season, the upgrade to a 2-bedroom unit would be an additional $299. When I protested, they played back a recording of the original telephone conversation. Conveniently, all references to the upgrade were not available in the recording.
Since I had invited additional family members to go along with us, we eventually settled on the 2-bedroom upgrade for an additional $230. I'm not happy about that, but I accepted it as the best we could do.
In October, the company called and left a message that our vacation plans had to change. When I called them back, they informed me that the 4 one-day passes at Copper Mountain Ski Resort were actually 1 4-day pass - which makes absolutely no sense when you schedule a 3 day vacation! I protested, and again they went back and listened to the recording. Even though they ADMITTED that the recording simply said 4 one-day ski passes, they refused to budge off the position that this was really one 4-day pass. Their new offer was two 1-day passes at Breckenridge Ski resort instead of the four 1-day passes at Copper that I thought I had originally been offered.
Bottom line, BE VERY CAREFUL IF YOU CHOOSE TO DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY. The tactics are, at best, very misleading. If I had a chance to cancel this transaction completely, I would do so in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, we have already booked the air travel, so the price tag for walking away is getting expensive.
Personally, if this is the way they do business, I will never again do any kind of business with Valdoro, even if they offered a ride to the moon for free.
