RE: Colorado Intensity Volleyball Club Disbanding of 16-2 Team

We paid top dollar for Colorado Intensity Volleyball Club this year in a trying economy to bring better skill levels to our daughters. We paid for coaching during practice times and for the opportunity to earn a spot on a team for competition. We did this in good faith that we would have a team the entire season.

On February 11th I wrote an email to The Director, Rose De La Sol, and told her that her no electronic rules at away games was ridiculous. I cited a 3.9 grade point average my daughter had and how important it was to my daughter to continue this. I explained that laptops for her homework were necessary as she'd be away for 4 days. The Director sent a public reprimand to me and all her board members stating that if I did not follow her rules my daughter would be removed from playing time. This of course, made me quite angry at that time. Through a series of emails discussing this topic she finally allowed a room whereby the girls could bring laptops and the chaperones would ensure that homework and not Facebook or MySpace would be the only usage. I saw no problem with that and thought that the situation had been dropped. I publically apologized in writing for sending the email to the Director.in hindsight I should have spoken to her directly.

On February 19th, the Director sent me an email to remove me from my Chaperone duties. She said it was due to her summation that I didn't believe the girls should follow club travel rules. My objective was never to not follow rules. My objective was to ensure that my daughter would have adequate time and resources to complete homework when at an away game. I was intensely worried about my daughter's ability to finish a project and complete homework without an electronic device the PC. The only disagreement we had was whether or not my daughter could use her laptop for homework. The Director generated an email threatening my daughter's removal if I did not comply with her rules. She clearly put her club above homework. For the record, all our girls followed every single travel rule and I would challenge her to prove otherwise. She had no cause to terminate me.

On February 22nd, my daughter was taken out of her primary Setting Position and put into a Middle Hitter Position for the entire tournament play time. The very next available tournament was the first sign that everything was not fine. Beth had been playing the whole game, but after the Greely tournament she was only allowed to play a small portion of the game. I realize it is the coach's responsibility to use my daughter in the best position for the team. I only state this as a reference for a pattern for the Director's behavior because at that time I had not thought that her position change was anything other than a great coaching move by Jennifer McNeil to shake up our team.

In February our last payments to CIVC were due.

A week after the final payment date, the Director met with the board and decided to disband our 16-2 team. On March 10th The Director told our girls that the reason for her terminating our team was because she had placed our coach into two club coaching positions and the upcoming power 5 & Regional tournaments caused conflicting of times for our coach of two teams.in her words; she and her board elected to disband the team based on the fact that we are only Division 9 and our girls did not possess the talent to continue. There is another team (our 15-2) that are also division 9. This team was not disbanded. This is the team that The Director elected to place our 15-year old girls on. Four girls currently on the 16-2 team are 16 and will move to the 17 team. She said it was due to their height. Until Cross Roads the Director had never visited our team on the court, and had not realized that all our 16 year old girls are the smallest in height on the team.

The Director choice to eliminate one team based on skill does not hold water. The following stats are current as of 3/9/09 before Crossroads and after her decision:

14's are ranked 44 of 70 (Division 6)
15-1's are ranked 47 of 76 (Division 4)
15-2's are ranked 70 of 76 (Division 9)
16-1's are ranked 46 of 72 (Division 4) The Director's Team
16-2's are ranked 54 of 72 (Division 9) Better record than 15-2's where the Director wants to place them
17's are ranked 36 of 57 (Division 4) the Director wants to place the 16-year old girls

Crossroads Stats
13's were ranked 16 of 16
14's were ranked 85 of 117
15-1's were ranked 85 of 117
16-1's were ranked 99 of 117 the Director's Team

16-2's were ranked 26 of 31
15-2's are not listed yet

The director and her board then elected to put my daughter back into a Setting Position and the girl who is currently setting for our 16-2 team now, into a second place backup. The only reason that I bring up positions on the team is because the Director insisted that my daughter didn't have enough talent to play the setting position on her current team.

The other CIVC teams are division 4-9. The Director stood in front of all the girls of the club and told them that there wasn't any talent in the entire group except two players. Carissa who is the daughter of The Director's best friend and Rod's daughter is Taylor. Rod is one of CIVC Board Members. Again, this is sited to form a pattern of behavior. This is not ethical in the RMR or USA standards of conduct.

Our team has shown what the spirit of a tremendous player is despite their losing season. We have never had a problem with teen drama, not respecting the rules nor any personal drama caused by any one player or parent. The Director showed prejudice and bias when she eliminated our team from her roster. If she was worried about which division her club would end up at she should have taken into consideration that we did not have to try out to be placed on a team. She had too few players to be able to form teams so she accepted everyone on ability to pay alone. She formed a contract with us for the whole season when she took every single girl and placed them on a team rather than insisting they earn their place on a team. Terminating mid season because they did not measure up was unreasonable.

I witnessed these girls crying. It was not my daughter crying, it was the entire club teams collectively crying. If I had known that The Director could disband the team at will or cause a conflict of interest by letting one coach lead two teams I would have never allowed my daughter to play with CIVC. Her lack of planning does not constitute a reason for defaulting on a contract she signed. The season does not end until Power 5 and Regional's are completed. She has plenty of coaches available to her for this purpose.

If you're a current player, parent and/or former parent who has signed your daughter up with Colorado Intensity Volleyball club and have been disappointed with the results please contact us immediately. This is a call to action and a chance for anyone who feels that their girls have been hurt in any way by the club to have a voice. Do not be afraid. This Director Rose De La Sol cannot harm you by turning you in. As long as what you tell us is the truth. We need facts that back up your claim. We're willing to hear any and all stories. We will let you know if there is any support that we can provide to you, or notify you if we intend to use what you have sent us for any reason.

Please note if you're the Director and one of the coaching staff at the CIVC please refrain from commenting against these parents and or coaches. This is an information gathering attempt. There is no attempt implied or otherwise to suggest that any other parent is dissatisfied with CIVC. This post is strictly for information gathering purposes. Keep this clean.
