I signed a 3 year contract with Bally Total fitness on 12/01 in Massachusetts. The contract states that I am eligible to cancel my membership after the 60 day trial period but within that time frame I would have to visit the club at least 17 times. Due to my an unforeseen business trip to Turkey, after visiting the club 6 times I had to leave the country for 30 days. Shortly after my return to the US, my trial membership period ended.
On 02/04 I sent an official cancellation request via mail with copies of my boarding passes and ticket receipt to Bally Total Fitness Cancellation Department (12440 E. Imperial Hwy. Ste. 300 Norwalk, CA 90650) explaining my situation. On 02/21 I received a phone call from one of their representatives informing me that my cancellation request was denied as I did not visit the club 17 times within the trial period. I explained that there was no opportunity to do so because in the last month of my membership I was physically not in the country. I also did not visit the club 17 times in the first 30 days because I did not expect to be sent on a business trip in my last 30 days of the trial period. It was not within my power to neither postpone nor cancel my business trip so that I could complete the 17 visit requirement. I have already paid the full amount for the 60 day trial membership fees to them and an not interested in renewing nor extending my membership as Bally has treated me poorly and provided little to no customer service during this entire process.
