I signed a year-long contract for a gym membership with Fitness USA in San Francisco, Ca. The contract states that if I move 25 miles away from a Fitness USA, I can cancel with no penalty. Two months into the membership, I moved to Palm Springs, Ca, almost 100 miles from the nearest Fitness USA. I notified Fitness USA in writing of this and they requested proof of residence. I sent a copy of my driver's license. That wasn't enough; They requested proof of employment, so I sent it to them. They then sent a request for proof that I was no longer enrolled in school. They stated that I received a discount for being a student. I told them I did not receive a student discount and sent them a copy of my contract. I did not tell anyone at Fitness USA that I was a student, and no where in my contract does it mention a student rate or discount. They refused to cancel my contract and sent me to collections. I have sent letters and requested proof of this student rate or dicount for the past three years. They refuse to provide it.
