To Whom It May Concern:

This is a product opinion/review and I would like people to know what I thought about the BlackHawk products that were shipped to my house!

Not to long ago, I ordered some items from Botach Tactical, which was a big mistake. (Had I known about the hundreds of complaints against Botach Tactical, I would have never ordered from them.)

Anyway, one of the items that I ordered was the BlackHawk Rifle & Shotgun Case #64RC37BK and a Gun Sling.

When UPS dropped off the package and the first thing I noticed was just how poorly BlackHawk packaged the products. (The two products were shipped from Elizabethtown Kentucky.)

I opened the package and examined the BlackHawk case. I even placed a very expensive rifle in the case and tried the magazine pouches.

Here I am, looking over a brand new BlackHawk Rifle & Shotgun case and all I am thinking is, Wow, what a piece of junk who was the idiot who designed this case?

Yeah, yeah I know BlackHawk sell thousands of them each year and has countless satisfied customers.

This does not change the fact that this product is not designed properly!

Why, do you ask, is this product poorly designed?

First problem: You do not design a case is such a way that when you pick it up with the carry handles, the weapon rests directly on the zipper. The idiots put the carry handles on the wrong side and there is nothing inside to secure the weapon.

I sent a letter to BlackHawk about this problem. One of their sales managers was nice enough to call and explain that using the shoulder strap prevented this.

Folks, I don't know about you, but when I carry a weapon in a gun case, I want to be holding the handle even if I am using a shoulder strap you can't do this with the BlackHawk 64RC37BK case.

(Why didn't they design it properly to begin with? Zippers can fail and you do not want a zipper supporting a $1,300 weapon. You want fabric holding and securing a weapon... Straps inside the case would have been nice!)

Second problem: BlackHawk is using the wrong type of padding!

They use a hard padding which does not offer the type of protection an expensive item deserves. This padding, if you can call it that, will not absorb any type of bump!

BlackHawk sales pitch is that the padding won't absorb water. So what and big deal, I don't care about how the padding won't absorb water. If the case gets wet, the weapon has to be taken out anyway. A soft gun case should protect your investment from bumps and scratches I could care less if the padding is water resistant.

Third problem: The magazine pouches were not big enough for the weapons magazines.

The pouches are designed with what I would call a fluted design, narrow at the bottom and wider at the top. The problem with this design is that in a short time, the weapons magazines will wear holes into the storage pouches. This is a clear design defect.

(The sales manager mentioned that the pouches were designed to hold two magazines apiece? Was he talking about the discreet case? The case I had couldn't hold two magazines!)

Fourth problem: BlackHawk claims and advertises that the case can be unzipped and laid completely flat for use as a shooting/resting pad.

That is not true!

Well, I suppose if I had torn fabric it would have laid flat, but the way the case was built no way, it will not lay flat.

Anyway, I would not use a $74 to $95 case like that. I would not want dirt and grim getting into the case. You know dirt, grim, and weapons are not a good combination!

Also, when you put the weapon in the case, it slides around. The padding is so hard, it doesn't cushion the weapon. (Tilt the case forward thump, tilt the case back thump.)

Fifth problem: This case is made in Vietnam why are they charging so much money for the products?

I do know something about production, wholesale and retail. I would make an educated guess that this case, including shipping to the States, cost about $19 or $20 dollars if that much. Now if you include shipping in the States, this product is costing a retailer about $42 to $47 wholesale, if that much.

This BlackHawk product is not worth $74 to $95 and all I can say that in my opinion what a rip-off, what a scam and it is not worth the price!

(You should see the lousy Gun Sling that they shipped two plastic clips and some very cheap 1.25' webbing/fabric I could have ordered the parts from Paragear and made a better quality sling than what was sent to me yes, the BlackHawk sling was also made in Vietnam. Also, the BlackHawk sales manager said he was going to talk with the production people about some of the problems I mentioned in my letter Yeah right, I am sure he is going to call Vietnam!)

Would I recommend BlackHawk cases or products?

No way!

Let me put it to you this way, after I sent the case back my wife commented, Please do not ever order a BlackHawk product again!

She was not impressed with their products; the quality was just not there. (She is also in agreement that we will never order from Botach Tactical!)

In closing, I kept the sling and I sent the BlackHawk case back. I then purchased a Made in the USA' case for $44 dollars not only was it cheaper it was made better and it does what a soft case should!

Oh... The weapon doesn't go thump inside the new case!

Stay away from BlackHawk!
