I have been renting a computer from this company for a few months now. I have rented a washer/dryer combo last year that I returned because it was not working properly. During the time I have been renting the computer, I have received calls every week threatening to pick up the computer due to non payment even though the payment would already be in their office.
I finally got fed up and told them I did not want to be harrassed anymore and I did not like the way they were running their company. I have never like to way they do business but I desparately need a computer and they had the best deal. Last month I found out I was being garnished but I did not know from whom.
I never received a notice from my job or anyone. My check was going to be garnished starting on September 30th. After days of questioning my job, I found out this company Rental Corp of America sent a writ of garnishment to my job for a judgement they claim they won against me in 1995. The garnishment letter went to an address I had in 1995. So I never received this notice.
This company knew I lived at the present address I have now because I have been renting from them. I was never served with any proof of a judgement or have I ever known of such a judgement. It has never been on my credit report either. I also never rented from this company back then and if I did, the merchandise was returned to them.
This company knew I was one of their current customers, saw me come inside to pay my bill but preceeded to get a lawyer to garnish my wages for some old bill they claim I owe them. Now I have had to take off from work, go to court to try to stop them and I am still being garnished by this company.
I am not able to deal with them because their lawyer is playing hard ball. I believe this is retaliation for me not putting up with their strong arm tactics and letting them know that. I have been a customer of theirs twice and they never brought up anything like this until now. I would others to know what type of company this is and hopefully they will not do business with them.
