Ok. So after getting the charges on my credit card and reading up on the company here, I called, absolutely furious, and demanded that my account be cancelled and my money refunded. It was done promptly, probably b/c I frequently referred to the literally hundreds of consumer complaints. I asked to be given my private access number so I could check back in a week or two to make sure it had been cancelled (on the assumption that my access code wouldn't work if it had been appropriately cancelled...)
I was informed that accessing the account after it expires would reactivate the account and cause my credit card to be charged again! I was understandably outraged and told them that they shouldn't have my credit card number available after this phone call. I was told that for auditing reasons they're required to keep all their customer records.
I demanded to speak to a supervisor, which happened in less than 3 minutes. I told him that they were welcome to keep my name on record if they absolutely had to, but they had to delete my ssn and credit card #. He said that it wasn't a typical action, so he'd have to send it to technical support and I'd get a response in about three weeks.
I flew through the roof and asked why it would take three weeks to delete 25 numbers from their database. I said that I would call back next week to make sure it was done or I'd sue the hell out of the company. He gave me the runaround for a bit longer, then after I'd gotten his first and last name, the name of the customer relations manager, a fax number, and a promise that he'd take care of it, I hung up.
I feel like I should have done more before getting off the phone, but really, what more could I do? The technical support "doesn't have a phone number." I asked how they communicate with tech support, and got some bs response. Similarly, customer relations doesn't have a phone number. How absurd is that? These companies must be reprimanded!
I now have to get on the phone with another company, since the two charges from "CIC CE Credit Manager" and "CIC Credit Monitoring" are two different companies.
Outrageous.
