The first six months were great, I ran coast to coast as a second seat and made some nice cash. What I didn't know was that after the first six months when I went to 1st seat in my own (company) truck is that I went to the bottom of the (good) loads list. You wouldn't think that going from 22,000 (team miles) a month to 19 or 18 would be a huge deal but when you drop below 20 they start charging.
They own the insurance company they use, Cherokee Insurance. 20,000 and your insurance is free, 19,999 to 18,000 your insurance will cost you roughly $500.00 and 17,9 or less and it's $700.00. The first six months I ran as a 2nd seat I never missed my mark. The 5 months I ran as a 1st I was only able to hit it the first month.
This is the part that is going to kill you, if and when you leave, she " Elizabeth (Liz) Whitener" Vice Pres., Head of Safety, and wife of the owner, destroys your record. When I quit she tried to get me to stay but by the time I quit I was so broke I couldn't afford the gas to get to the terminal. They claimed that I had two accidents, neither of which I was in the driver seat. One was a small limb fell on the trailer, (no damage, no ticket), and the other was a trailer we picked up with a little damage to a door.
Last but not least, I quit at the end of the month and they charged me full price for insurance for the following month, even though I had received a letter from the insurance co stating that I was no longer covered because I was no longer an employee. I had a $900.00 check coming but after $600.00 in advances and $700.00 in insurance it put me in the negative. Leaving me with a debt of $300.00 and allowing them to report a "Misappropriation of company funds" on my DAC.
I can't even begin to tell you how much damage she has done to my reputation. I'm a good driver, no accidents, no tickets, no double logs, pretty straight arrow. I didn't deserve this and neither do you.
