On Labor Day, I took advantage of the sales going on at Rooms To Go as well as other furniture companies. The sales person, Lorraine, was as nice as she could be while we were in the store. We decided to purchase 2 full living room sets and finace it through CitiFinancial (for the no interest and no payments until Sept. 2005). We were looking at 3 different sets. Before deciding, we asked Lorraine if she could verify that everything was in stock and that we could get a delivery for a particular day within the next week. The delievery date was a very important factor in buying the furniture because we have our house warming scheduled. We had already been to Ashley's to purchase other furniture before going to RTG. If we could not get the furniture by a certain date, we made sure that we could cancel the order so that we could instead purchase from Ashley's. Lorraine said "yes".
Since that day was Labor Day, Lorraine said that the business office was close and she could not schedule a particular date, so that on the paperwork she would put 9/16 as a tenative date but would call to get an earlier scheduled date the very first thing the next day and to expect a phone call from her. We only had 48 hours to cancel the order if we could not get an early enough delievery.
3 days later, no call from Lorraine or anyone else from Rooms To Go. I called and asked for Lorraine. She wasn't in. I told the girl who answered the phone what I needed. She looked up my account and told me that Lorriane had scheduled delivery for 9/29! During this phone cinversation, I also found out that one of the sofa/love seat sets was not in stock and had been on back order for well over a month (although Lorraine told us otherwise), that set couldn't be delivered before 10/05. Most of the pieces we ordered were in, but because all of it wasn't in, I had 3 choices: wait until 10/05 to have all of my funiture delivered, have the pieces that were in deleivered but pay an additional delivery fee (on top of what I already paid) to have the back-ordered stuff delieverd, or cancel my order and only receive 80% (minus taxes and delievery fee) refund!
After going around in cirles with RTG, I finally got to speak to the store manager. He looked at the notes on my account and said that the late deleivery was due to all the last minute decisions i had made. There were notes that I had called in to get the furniture in another color, change the style of the lamps, and had specifically asked for an "early October delievery date"! Lie lie lie lie! None of that happened! After I complained about the dishonest way RTG was handling their business, he pretty much told me that I should have asked more questions, called back the very next day instead of waiting on Lorraine, should have made up my mind about what I wanted when I was in the store, and that there was nothing he could do. BUT because RTG was so customer oriented, said that he would issue a $150 instore credit!
I am forced to cut my losses and wait for the 10/5 delievery. I've already lost plenty of money wasted on invitations, catering arraingments, etc for the house warming that obviously CANNOT happen this weekend (9/18)! I cann't afford to give RTG 20% in reward for their lousy business practices. I can just see the truck pulling up to deliever furniture that I DIDN'T buy. I've made it a point to tell everyone I know to NEVER buy from RTG... I should have stuck with (name removed by usacomplaints.com). Stay tuned..
