I recieved a phone call from Liberty Group Services one day concerning a credit card. The guy said I would need to give them my bank account number to make sure I was in good standings with my bank in order to qualify for the credit card, rather than doing a background check.
Which to me, sounded pretty good, because I am only 18 and have no credit. So going by my bank account I was sure to be approved, and on my way to building credit. So I gave the man my account number and he then told me I was approved!
He said my starting off credit limit was $2,500 and after making the first few payments it would increase to $7,500. I would have a low fixed rate of 6.9%, no annual fee and no activation fee. Sounds like a good deal, hu! Then the catch: I would have to give them $300 out of my account!
I was kind of leary of the whole situation at first. But then the man told me that I would be getting my money back! He said as soon as I got my Card, I coluld call them and have them transfer my $300 back into my account. So I fell for it, and agreed!
It had been a little over a month and I still hadn't seen a credit card. So I started getting really worried. I decided to get on the internet and do some research on the company. And when I did, it brought me here to this site. I was so mad when I realized I had been scamed. Everything they had told me was a LIE!
By reading other reports, I found out that I could not get my money back. Also that this "Credit Card" wasn't even really a credit card. I could only use it to order out of their catalog. Now how is that gonna help build my credit?
I also read on this site that I should go to my bank and request an ACH transaction. So that is what I did. One of the associates at the bank filled out a form for the ACH transaction to try and get my money back. And I got denied! So then I had them talk to a manager, and had him try. And first thing that next morning, I recieved a phone call from the bank saying come in, we've got your money back!
So I went to the bank, closed out my account and had all my money put into a new account. I am very lucky to have gotten my money back! My advice to anyone who is currently in this situation: go to your bank and if you aren't successful the first time, try again! Don't give up! And be sure to file a usacomplaints.com! Don't let them get away with it!
