Last year back in september, I was beginning college here in my town and a few days later American Publishers Called my house telling me that i needed to sign up for the Magazines so they could be shipped to my house. They were telling me once i signed up, ill be getting 5 magazines for 49.95 and will be receiving a $1000 dollar shopping spree. So i thought i had to because they sounded really convincing like i needed them so bad. They charged me already. I canceled my card towards the end of September because i wasn't working anymore, changed my cell number and never received any calls.
As the months went by and i never received any magazines, they somehow gotten a hold of my house number sometime in January, saying i needed to pay for the magazines i ordered but i had never and still haven't received any of them. The lady that called me, sounded very rude and not very polite. She was getting mean over the phone, demanding for me to pay the bill or she was going to suit me. She started asking me questions about how i was going to pay for the bill, what i did with my debit card, needed another card on file,
How am i not getting my FASFA money or if i even had that money. I told her "hey i never received any magazines, i canceled my card because i wasn't working anymore, i shouldn't pay for something i have never received, and I did not have my FASFA for college yet because they don't hand out the check towards the end of semester" She also said that she was going to call back for me some kind of credit card, that i needed to go to Walmart to get the prepaid card to put on there file for me. I couldn't just leave my town just to go to Walmart, traveling 2 and a half hours to get the darn thing
Couple days went by and i didn't leave town, another lady calls back saying " Have you gotten the Card for us to put on File?" i said "No sorry i don't, i didn't leave town yet" she said sounding very disrespectful "Well, you need it that card, if your not going to pay, we are going to file a suit against you" so i told her " well, ill try to get some money scrapped up to get a prepaid debit card." another couple days went by and she called back "Have you got that card?" i again said i didn't and then she sounded mad saying"Well How are you paying for college, thought you would have money?" I said " I don't even get money till them end of my semester" so she didn't say anything but i told her to call back later
A week went by, it was a Guy name Jay calling me saying "I am calling you for that magazines for which you haven't paid for and we need to get a credit card on File" i said "well i have no money and i have not job" Jay said " well we need it or we are going to turn your debt over to Collection Agency and your going to be owing back your FASFA" that got me worried and i didn't want that to happen to me, was still going to school and I would be screwed if i couldn't go back to college without that. I'm not really wealthy as you may know.
I had to ask around for money to pay for the magazines, only one that would help me was my mom. My mom talked to Jay telling him why we should even pay them when the magazines didn't even come in. She also said that I, her son, was charged for them but canceled the card and therefore we shouldn't give pay you. My mom and i was telling him that i no longer didn't want their service, the lady made a mistake saying i wanted the service still. We had to tell the guy to call back a week later for us to put money in my mom's bank account for him to withdraw money out. The week after he called us back saying there wasn't money in the account because it was already taken out so i had to scab up $200 to pay off the debt
Its really stressing having to do all of this just for them to take money from me so they wouldn't have to be calling me all the time. Lately, they haven't called back since now its around the first and i was suppose to make a payment but i've been calling them and there's no answer. Every time i call, it goes to their voice mail box. I hope someone can do something about this because i dont want to pay American Publishers ever again, they're a BIG SCAM!!
