I had a two year contract with At&t and I paid every single payment on time. I was told by radio shack (where I bought the phone) that I needed to call one month in advance to cancel or not renew my contract at the end of the two years. I called one month in advance to let them know I was going with a different carrier.
At&t charged me for another month (and added late fees) totally approximately $169.00. After writing 15 or more letters and email telling the company I did not owe anything, I called them. The person on the other end of the line actually told me that I was supposed to write a letter to cancel, and since I did not, they were charging me. Pretty soon they will put it on my credit.
I am outraged by this! These money hungry, greed companies need to have some rules set down in legislation so that they cannot rip people off like this. I paid my two year contract, and this is what I get. Constant harassment by phone, email, and letters.
This is the heart of the problem of greed in this country: companies that try to sap every last little bit of money you have just because you decide to take your business elsewhere. This is what At&t did to me. I am single, disabled and raising children Social security that is very low, and these greedy money suckers just won't let up.
DO NOT endorse At&t as your service provider. They will continue to rip you off even after you have paid in full.
