He sacrificed time with his family, did not eat for hours and missed so much because he had that stupid company-issued pager glued to his ear& alert for ANY indication that they were needing him to report for duty.
It was OK at first, there was plenty of work for him. Because he graduated from a police academy, he was able to be a Custom Protection Officer and he was able to work at almost every high-tech corporate office they have and he was OK.
This guy was very close to being a Japanese-like "Salary man."
A company zombie even!
He lived for his job!
Then the high-tech corporate premium accounts began to dwindle. Many of the companies went out of business, moved overseas, downgraded their security to a cheaper company and he had to work at the banks then wherever they found a place for him.
He wasn't young and beautiful enough to work at Dell Computer HQ in Round Rock, TX. The preferred security officers there are young African American officers who look like Halle Berry and Montel Williams! Older white males don't quite make the grade there. Well, older ANYBODY, actually... Fyi. The officer rotation there is really something else!
So they told him there was nothing left that would require a Custom Protection Officer.instead of honorably laying him off, they assigned him, like they did me, to a lower grade security assignment, " Upscale Protection Officer.
The particuliar site where they put him was the Texas Department of Transportation (Separate complaint enrty forthcoming on how they treat THEIR contract security workers too — complete with reverse racism!) where nobody can stay for very long. There is sexism, racism and a whole lot of hell going on there. There is constant harrassment and false things told about you and the Wackenhut people were trying to make a case so they could fire my husband without having to pay any unemployment insurance to him. Apparently they hadn't expected him to last for more than five years and were trying to amass enough evidence against him (whether with basis in fact or not) IN SPITE OF HIS LONG AND FAITHFUL SERVICE. When tehy couldn't get anything on him, they sent him to the TxDot facility where their in-house B*s who claim to be "security" took care of it for them.
It was an open and shut case and a great excuse to terminate him. There was no evidence. No surveillance camera. No proof and he was not permitted to say a word in his own defense.
So this is a word of warning letting you know that even though wackenhut is under new ownership by a danish company, the same cheap and conniving gang of idiots are still in charge and they really appreciate people who dedicate themselves to the company.
Don't hire them as your private security contractor!
Don't go to work for them and tell everyone you know not to work for them—at least in austin, tx! People tell me they recently moved to round rock, tx but the message and their policies are still the same!
Instead of promoting him for his many years of loyal and faithful service, they graduallly demoted him and got rid of him. They don't even offer affordable benefits much less pay for any and so they sure as hell weren't going to pay unemployment or lay him off subject to recall when business picked up again or when all of the military reserves who work for them get called up for duty in the Middle East.
