I want to warn any individuals and other companies who are considering doing business with these people to know what they did to us! I was a highly successful small business owner, well known in my industry. I made a very good income. I lived in Sacramento until 2010.
I now live in Texas. I arrived here as a result of a work transfer that my husband and I took for his company, Monument Security, inc. Owned by Scott & Katie McDonald. This 'mom & pop' business doubled in size over 6 years because of my husbands knowledge and expertise in the security industry, as the director of operations and business developement he enabled the company to become much better established.
Due to the economic issues in California, it was decided to branch out into other states, with the long term goal of moving the company out of California. Texas was considered the most viable and economically feesable choice. It was agreed that if my Husband and I moved to Texas for Monument Security I should retire from my business and be employed as an administrative assistant, which would replace my lost income because of the move out of state, it was also agreed that the company would pay 2/3rds of our moving expenses.
As time progressed, we became heavily pressured (especially by the wife, Katie) to move quickly... Since we could not get our ranch sold fast enough (a place where I had made part of my living for years) we leased it out and took an enormous financial loss on the property, being assured by the McDonalds that it would all be worth the sacrafice in the end!
We proceeded to sell everything we could not take or afford to move and (though still recovering from recent surgery) I did an advance road trip with what was left of my professional equipment to save Scott McDonald money. On that trip the transmission failed in our truck and stranded me for days in El Paso, costing us $5400 in repairs.
We officially arrived in Texas in February. Over the next few weeks Scott began to suggest that we should repay him for his share of the cost of the moving expenses. And in reality, it had actually cost us well over half the agreed amount as it was, we were astounded and were very worried that my husband, who had done so much for Monument Secruity... Was becoming 'expendable'.
Scott & Katie McDonald were becoming more and more impatient. This caused us a great deal of stress, as we were doing everything possible to launch the 'start up' quickly, it takes many weeks of work to get a branch up and running in another state, things were far from easy and became compounded by a gross lack of support from Scott McDonald regarding one of his other employee's.
This womans abrasive attitude damaged some key relationships here in Texas to the point that the company refused to do business with her! So my husband was also tasked with doing her job, which in turn took time away from the start up process, as we were required to drive back and forth to Dallas from Houston (250 miles one way) Scott & Katie Mc Donald began to suggest that we were not working hard enough.
These people's lack of patience and ruthlessness was well known to others in the industry and we tried not to think that they would do the unthinkable and actually move us out here and then 6 months later find a way to terminate my husband (and me). Another motivator for them was the commissions my husband was getting from a newly aquired account my husband had been working on for the company for years, if he was gone, they could keep that money.
We knew they were capable of such things, as they had done it before to other former employees. And he had saved a great deal of money over the years avoiding paying people the commissions they had earned. Well that is exactly what happened to us. We were left, here in Texas. Stranded. We had no home, no vehicle (McDonald flew in and drove it back to CA) not even a phone, and worst of all... No income.
We have been devastated financially, to the point that we are in bankruptcy. It was the 'last straw' for me, I have always paid my bills, been financially responsible and had maintained a great credit score for over 30 years. I had had enough! After a year of dealing with the struggle, and trying to financially survive, I wrote a scathing email of absolute truth about these people, their behaviour over the years and what they had done to us. I sent it everywhere I could, to everyone I could.
Monument Security, inc. Is now sueing me, a 50 year old retiree, with their high priced, pompus lawyer, for $650,000 for defamation! They are sueing me in California (DUH, I live in Texas) the law here is different, he didnt do his 'homework'... It will cost him thousands, and if he gets a judgement, he wont be able to collect... I am BROKE
so come a git me! Being broke never felt soooooo good folks! Because this is now out there for the world to see what a rotton company MONUMENT SECURITY, inc. Really is!
