First American Home Warranty - only protects their interests

Buyer Beware before buying home warranty from first american!!!
I bought First American (FA) Warranty coverage last year. My AC stopped cooling 2 months ago. I submitted the service request. The contractor was dispatched and scheduled. They did not even show up on the scheduled time window. First American dispatched another contractor Authorized Service Center (ASC) in Garland TX. I checked their BBB ratings and ripoff report. You don't want to deal with this company if you could but I had no choice since First American does not allow you to change contractor.

Here is their BBB review:

Don't forget to check their license violation in Texas:

ASC gave me a 9-5 time window. The technician that came only check how much freon that I have in my system. He said it's too low and he filled it up. He did not even check for leak! His gauges dials do not even have glass cover. You could mess with the needle and it'd give you a different reading. I wonder how he passed the certification. I was charged $55 for the service call.

Two months later the problem came back. We've been having 100 degrees days in the past 50 days. I placed a service request friday evening. I called ASC saturday morning. They scheduled me on Monday. They gave me 9-5 window again. The technician did not even show up during the time window. I called them and they told me that someone will come. Someone from ASC office called back and told me that the technician was running late. The technician finally came around 730pm. Two and a half hours after the time window expired.

They sent a technician that is not even licensed!!! He told me that my coil leaked. It needed to be replaced. He filled out an "Upgrade Awareness" sheet. He said that these are charges that I am not covered by First American. They are mandatory to be paid by us, the Homeowner. They are like Disposal, Permit, Secondary Drain pan, Duct Modification, Updgrade drain lines Flush Drain lines etc. They quoted me around $700 to replace the same exact coil. The technician said it'd delay the coil replacement if I did not sign it that evening.

I had to sign it because I had no choice due to the temperature outside.inside temp is roughly around 95F when the AC is not running. Someone from the office called the following morning and told me about the ADDITIONAL UPGRADE that I should be paying. The total amount is around $1300. I asked them why should I pay all the extra upgrade fee when ASC is replacing the same exact coil? The drain pan is squeaky clean. The drain line was just flushed recently. ASC never replied.

I called FA to get cash out options. I asked them how much can I get? They said $200 to replace the coil. Are you KIDDING ME!!! They said that's how much they pay the contractor to replace the coil. No wonder we are all paying the price.in my case is $1300 if I chose to go ahead with the replacement. And the warranty is 30 days!!! I checked around and someone quoted me $1200 to replace the coil with 1 yr warranty on labor & 5 year on parts. Would you go with your home warranty company?

Don't waste your money on home warranty. They are just a bunch of liars that try to rip you off.

Quoted from FA website:
Protection from potentially huge, costly system or appliance repair and replacement bills. Just one event could literally wipe out your hard-earned savings.
This is actually correct! I agree with it. FA Home Warranty will actually wipe out your hard-earned savings.
