I received the following request from One Call Services, on July 18:

When I spoke to Mr. Esnayra on the phone, he insisted a check would be sent to me immediately upon receiving an invoice. My company responded to what we thought was a proper work request on 7/20 and completed the work professionally and to local and state electrical codes. I sent Mr. Esnayra an invoice on July 21st and have received no payment to date. We have made several attempts to contact him through emails and through phone calls without luck. Finally, on 8/23 I received the following answer after my third email attempt where I informed Mr Esnayra that I had not received payment and have no choice but to seek payment directly from Payless:

"Wayne, this invoice was paid for $150.00 on your invoice #2011008. Please do not threaten people unless you have your facts straight! Have a nice day! Paul

We gave Mr. Smith the benefit of doubt by waiting an additional week to see if something would come in the mail or a response to our request for check number and date mailed. Neither have come as to this date. Mr. Smith is only stalling because he knows perfectly well that no payment has been made to my company from his. He mentions my invoice number but not the check number he claims to have sent to me or the date sent.

We have since checked with some of the online fraud reporting agencies and found many claims against One Call Services. Apparently, they find national clients such as Payless and sub contract work to small out of state companies like mine. They charge you for the work we do and deliberately neglect to pay us anything. Since we are small businesses, they know we cannot afford to pay expensive attorneys to file out of state claims against them. They are running a scam and victimizing small businesses like mine that are already operating in the red due to the present economic situation.

I half blame myself for not researching these scam artist before doing the work.
