Check Cashing Declined

My Fiance and I went in to our local Wal*Mart to cash his payroll check on August 1. His payroll check came from a high end business. We would have taken the check to the bank and cashed, but when we finally got home and got the check from the mail it was after closing time for the banks.

He handed the cashier his check, and put in all information that was asked. After a few minutes, he was handed a slip of paper and his check back. The cashier told him his check had been declined. He then asked why. She asked him if he had ever cashed a check there before. When he told her not at that location, she replied that was the reson his check declined. I was stunned! We walked out of there livid!

We looked at the slip of paper he received and it gave him reason 2, and also listed the number to call Certegy. He called the number and waited and went through all kinds of automated things before he got a real person.

She asked him a bunch of questions, and he answered. Then she told him his check was declined because their system was setup to protect the concumer, and because he had not cashed a check at that Wal*Mart before it was declined.

We were outraged at this response! Don't you have to start somewhere. I am so dissappointed that places would use a company like Certegy! Something needs to be done about these people!
