Commissioner Jon Norheim solicits Bribes
What Im about to say may be considered unbelievable in America, but it is the gods truth. Commissioner Jon Norheim contacted me outside the Las Vegas family court and openly solicited a bribe from me for $100,000 cash in exchange for releasing my father from a corrupt guardian. It all began three years ago.
In 2008 my father who was a resident of Las Vegas injured his head in a fall. He suffered moderate brain damage. Our family lives in Seattle Washington. My two sisters and I flew to Las Vegas and petitioned the court to bring father home where we could watch over him. To anyone reading this report this sounds like a perfectly reasonable request, which any family would do for a parent who was deeply loved. Naturally we were told a Nevada lawyer would be needed to draft our petition. We hired Alan D Freer. Mr. Freers first move was to convince us to appoint a temporary guardian. Freers first choice was Jared Shafer who was the former public guardian for Clark County. Again this sounded completely reasonable. Alan D Freer told us Mr. Shafers objective was to help us get our father out of state. Mr. Freer said Mr. Shafers guardianship was only temporary. We believed all statements that Mr. Freer told us. Everything Alan Freer said turned out to be a lie.
The case dragged on. After 9 months Jared Shafer called me at my home in Seattle and said your father will never leave the state. When a senior moves to Nevada, they will not be allowed to leave. Shafer went on to say wise up stupid, Alan Freer works for me. If Mr. Freer even thought of fighting this system, Freer would never be allowed to work in this town again. I was shocked to hear this. Shafer made this statement over the telephone. Patience Bristol was on the call. And I heard her say you better listen to what Mr. Shafer says. Jared Shafer went on to say if you fight us in family court, I will bleed your fathers estate dry. I will use your fathers money to fight against you and that is my entertainment in this game. I never heard anyone talk this way before.
My first thought was that I was in a B rated movie or perhaps in the middle of a bad nightmare caused by indigestion. Unfortunately this was not the case. What occurred was in real life and I was fully awake. My father went to the hospital for dehydration and that fact wasnt a bad dream. My next move was to contact the media, but quickly learned the Las Vegas media was not interested in writing or televising stories about the corruption of Jared Shafer. Alan D. Freers legal fees kept mounting up and after 2 years, we had paid Solomon Dwiggins Freer and Morse over $125,000 for services, which were never performed.in fact Freer was really working for Jared Shafer instead of us. Ms. Dwiggins of this firm was threatening to destroy our credit because we owed her an additional $10,000 for services, which were never performed. Things were looking very bad for my father. He had been placed in Chancellor Gardens, a retirement home, which had over 108 State recorded violations. Both Jared Shafer and Alan Freer kept insisting Chancellor Gardens was the best facility they could find in Las Vegas for my father.
I went to Las Vegas and stayed at the Sun coast Hotel. While eating dinner at the seafood bar, a waiter told me I had a phone call. This was strange because I carry a cell phone. The waiter handed me a cell phone. A voice on the other end said when you finish eating come to the front desk. I finished and proceeded to the front of the hotel. Patience Bristol was waiting for me. She said, please follow me outside. I walked outside of the hotel and standing in front of me was Commissioner Jon Norheim. Commissioner Norheim said we can resolve this matter in a way, which would be equitable to all parties concerned. Norheim said your father is worth $450,000 and he has a pension of $4,000 per month. I will issue a ruling in your favor if you give this nice young lady $100,000 cash. Norheim paused waiting for my reaction. I stood frozen in one spot. Patience said think of it like this, you might have to pay an attorney more than $250,000 to overturn our rulings. Paying this money will save you $125,000. Everyone will be satisfied and Jon Norheim will have the case sealed so no one will know the details of your personal business.
I was dazed by the brashness displayed by this group. My next move was to call a family friend who was an attorney with the Department of Justice. She strongly advised me not to pay the money. Her next statement was not what I wanted to hear. She said government budget constraints have forced the Department of Justice not to pursue guardianship or family cases. It was sad that these people have been allowed to run wild.
As of the date of this report Ive not paid the money. The Las Vegas police have been contacted and a report has been taken. The follow up has been very poor at best. The FBI is not interested in this case for the same reasons. As I end this rip off report only a series of questions remain. How many families have been forced to pay large amounts of money to take their loved ones away from Nevada? Who are the people getting paid? Is Jon Norheim and Jared Shafer the only people getting these bribes? I dont know. Im a locksmith and my wife is a school teacher. What will be done in the future is anyones guess. We can only hope for a better tomorrow for seniors like my father.
