Office Team drug screen, background check, promise of job, fake interview

I spoke with Jocelyn at RHI in Oakland about a job in Sacramento, advertised on Craigslist. First mistake. She wanted me to drive to Oakland to fill out an application and be drug tested because she said their client (Nationwide) had such a requirement. I filled out a 10 page application online and also a consent and background information for the drug screen. I had a phone interview with Elena Barnett of Nationwide and reported to Jocelyn that it went well.

I told Jocelyn it was inconvenient to travel to Oakland to be tested, as that would have cost me $30 and she agreed that I could go in to the Office Team branch in Sacramento. I did and there I filled out several more forms, an application, and took office skills tests. Jocelyn told me after I checked in with her that she was surprised that they had me fill out an application and take tests.

All along, I was old I would have a temp job at Nationwide and that Elena "loved me", etc., but they were insistent on the drug screen. Honey at Office Team sent me an email asking me to fill out another background application for the drug screen. I told her I had already filled out both applications and she said, yes, she had the information that I had filled it out but that due to a "computer glitch" she couldn't open the background informatoin for the drug screen and wanted me to fill it out again.

There followed anotehr phone call, with Jocelyn also on the line, instreucting me to fill out the form, and giving me 24 hrs. To take the drug test. I was left with the impression that this was the last step and that I would be startig a job within the next couple of days, and that Nationwide was "making a badge" for me and in general ready to have me start as a temp-to-perm legal assistant.

The testing facility they used was on Folsom and I went to the TOWN of Folsom, wasting time and gas, and then waiting 2 hrs. At the clinic to be seen and tested.

I reported back to Honey and they had the test and I waited two more days until Friday, when I was told by Jocelyn that because of the holiday the background check was taking longer, but that I should hear on Monday. She told me the drug test was clear as expected and that they were still waiting for the background check but that I should plan on having a temp job on Tuesday.

On Monday, April 25th I received a call from Maria at the Oakland office of RHI. She asked me if could go in for a face to face interview that afternoon with Elena Barnett at Nationwide. She said that I was the top candidate, and that most likely I would start work on Tuesday. I agreed to go in at 2:30 that day for an interview.

Elena Barnett told me at the start of the interview that she was sorry, but that Alice at RHI knew that the job was no longer open because the person who was going to leave had decided to stay. This was the first time I heard that the position did not exist. I stayed for an excruciating one hour interview for another "position" that would be in the front and partly admin., and partly working for one attorney. Silly me, I was still thinking I would have a temp job to start on Tuesday, and it was not until the end of the interview that she told me that the job had several other candidates, and that if I were to get the job, it would start after Friday, May 6th.

Apparently, Jocelyn, Alice and Maria at RHI in Oakland knew that the job did not exist and just had me jump through hoops for some sadistic game.
