Telemarketer Promised a Free Pager, and gives an activation code to use later. To activate the service (optional). You must answer a series of yes and no questions. At no time, did I authorize a voice mail service, or commit to any other services.
A letter arrives, with a coupon, to get the pager, but you must pay an "Activation" fee of $47.90 to get the pager (lie #1 The telemarketer claimed the pagers were free as part of a promotion). The telemarketer also claimed this promotion was being offered to Sprint customers first (lie #2 as if Sprint was involved). I did not send in any form, or use the activation code given to me by the telemarketer.
Phone bill (Sprint) Arrives. With a $56.55 charge, for a voicemail service (that I did not sign up for). They charged $19.95 for the voice mail, and an activation fee of $34.95, and a tax of $1.65. I called Sprint, and they told me to call the phone number on the bill (800-713-9078) which belongs to OAN Services, On behalf of Zetatel Communications, in Plano Texas.
I called OAN Services, to halt the charges. I was told, that I could discontinue the service, but would have to pay the $56.55.
IMPORTANT: I called Sprint, and informed them, the OAN Services charges on my bill are in DISPUTE, and that I will pay the remaining balance of my phone bill (to keep service). Sprint marked the dispute in their billing system.
Additional Info: On August 2, ACI Billing Services, a division of Avery Communications Inc., purchased the assets of OAN Services. Www.acibilling.com
I better get busy. So many fraud reports. So little time.
