The magazine sent me a "2 for 1" subscription offer that clearly stated "with your subscription you can give a gift subscription for FREE". I called them and was going to take them up on that offer.
However, the cost of my subscription would have been only $49.50, and the total with the "free" gift subscription increased the cost to $69.00. When I challenged this, I was told the offer's wording came from their marketing division, and their actual subscription terms are priced at the $69.00. So this is false advertising, and probably illegal in some states.
I intend to contact the North Carolina Attorney General's office of consumer affairs and file a formal complaint, as I told the magazine rep I would.
