USA Relocation
Cost vs Quote over $1K / Broke many items

Supervisor assured us thathe and his crew will take good care of us and this move will costaround $2,400. However, this move turned out to be themost disastrous move of our lives. Even though I toldthe foreman what items needed to be moved, the following is a list ofitems left behind: 1. Patiofurniture (big round table with four oversized chairs and eightcushions) 2. Twobig full length oversized mirrors. 3. Onebig mirror with heavy frame. 4. Twolarge and four small glass shelves for the large entertainment centerin the family room. 5. Twoglass tops for coffee tables. 6. Entertainmentcenter in the master bedroom (because movers did not how todisconnect the TV from the entertainment center). 7. Bigfolding mirror screen (three panels). Two trucks werecompletely packed with small apple boxes instead of big items that wecannot move on our own and other items my husband marked them not totake. Later we discovered that some of the wardrobe boxes wereless than quarter full with three or four items and taped like crazy. Next day we had torent a U-Haul truck and hired two people ($10 an hour) to move theheavy items (such as dressers, night stands, chaise, filing cabinets, etc.) left in the garage and put together items they left withoutunwrapping or putting together such as four bed frames (two King, onequeen and one twin sizes) and an oversized entertainment center witha very heavy TV set. It cost us another $500. But the mostupsetting things were the damaged items listed below: 1. Piano: Welisted piano as one of the items to be removed and Lee told myhusband that the movers know how to handle moving a piano. However, the movers showed up without proper tools to disassemble to piano andmy husband had to go to Home Depot to get it. Even though theypractically mummified the piano, they rolled the piano into theliving room and they did not even put the entire piano back togetherbefore they left. Piano may not have scratches, but thepedals were not reinstalled, CD player no longer works and the pianocover does not close properly. 2. Rounddining table was wrapped and wrapped and taped excessively, but theway they handled to table to wrap and unwrap caused the edges to becompletely damaged and top has strange markings would not come outand needs refinishing. 3. Massagechair arm attachment to hold control panel was broken. Also, the chair is jerky when it is in reclining position. 4. Beigesuede bed (this is the one needs plastic covering the most) wasmishandled by movers with their dirty sweaty hands and thrown in tothe moving truck without any plastic covering because they ran out ofplastics. Because they used so much plastic for everylittle thing that when they were ready to move beige suede bed, nomore plastics left. 5. Foremanwas taking off a finial top for a lamp as he explaining how lampshould be packaged to prevent it from breaking; he dropped finial topand broke it. He asked me whether I have any crazy glue. They mummifiedeverything in excess takes forever to wrap things unnecessarily. WhenI complained that they take too much time, they told me that becausepeople complain about damaged furniture. But it not thelack of taping, it is the way they handle items to wrap and unwrapfurniture cause damages based on my observation. They did nothandle things with care. I had $3,800 in mychecking account (well over $2,800 cost estimate I received from Leeor her supervisor), but the final bill was $4,000 after so calledmany discounts. I felt like I just got punched in mystomach. They told me if I do not pay $4,000, they willtake the truck to Van Nuyes with all my belongings and I will have topay even more money get my furniture back. Twice they putmy debit card numbers wrong and when they tried third time withcorrect numbers, the bank put a fraud hold on my card. ShowcaseHomes end up paying entire $4,000 on my behalf which I paid it backlater.
We felt thatmovers taped items unnecessarily (practically mummified some items), including tops of wardrobe boxes. Also, when the foremanwas putting together piano for example, all other five guys standingthere watching him. We felt that it was a ploy to lengthen the movingtime and charge ridiculous amount of money for packing materials. 2. Pleasereimburse us for some of the packing material cost: Isupplies most of the clear tapes because I did not like them to usebrown tapes. I had numerous moving boxes, wardrobe boxesand apple boxes from the previous move so I did not have to pay fornew moving boxes. So why am I charged $1,381 for packingmaterials?
