To begin my story I must first describe my sister to you. She is a beautiful young adult woman in her early 20's with minimal direction. Urban Development recruiters picked up on this and used it to their advantage. My sister was told that she will travel across the U.S. Selling magazines door-to-door. I was not too fond of the idea but she reassured me that it was a great company. As time went on things started to go down hill. Now the whole moto to this company is to raise up our Urban youth. They train these individuals to lie and cheat their way through life. They are given a script that describes the poor upbringing they came from and if it is a woman, she mentions her children she is trying to support. Before i go further, my sister does not have children, but she is suppose to lie and feed this script to vulnerable and caring Americans. The remainder of the script tells of the 50% cut the actual individual recieves from the sale. Again, my sister only gets 29% These are just the lies they train her to tell people to gain sales from sob-stories.
To further the horrible experience, Urban Development drives her across country. She is exposed to criminals of various degrees. I found out that one of their salesmen actually broke into someones home (found via internet.) She lives hotel, to hotel with people who do illegal drugs, drink, party and have sex. She is suppose to be working and she is now pregant. I cant see how in anyway this comapany is making her life better. These "managers" let her feel abondoned and alone, afraid to come home. She walks street corners and if she doesnt make her sales quota, she can't eat. She risks the possibility of going to jail daily because this company doesnt not have the proper permits to do door-to-door sales in any state in the US. My sister actually got a solicitation fine. Do you think Urban Development is going to pay for it? What does this sound like to you??? Can we say pimping. The last time I checked pimping and solicitaion are illegal.
She no longer wants to sell magazines (b/c she no longer wants to lie), if she tells customers the truth about the company and that it is a scam, there are consequences. She is afraid they will abandon her in whatever town their in.
If I had the money to get my sister home today, I would without a second thought. She is now pregant by one of her managers, hungry, and they are still making her walk around the streets trying to sell magazines. The company assured her when she first was hired that when she was ready to leave they would send her home. That is not the case. I even wired her money and they wont even drive her to go pick it up because she hasn't made any sales. I just want her to come home.
If any of you meet some of these salesmen, the company is exploiting these individuals, feeding them and you, a LOAD of BS!!! She feels as if she owes them something. Her mind has been brainwashed, and i can't see how any of these experiences are preparing her for a brighter future.
For consumers: please do a search on the comany and read various consumer complaintss. There is so much criminal activity, it dont understand how they haven't brought the owner down. If you consider or recently bought magazines, internet reports show that the magazines do not arrive on time if at all. They sell you one magazine to send you a different one than ordered. Please do your research on this company and please pray for my sister that I can get her and my future niece or nephew home safely.
