Jacob Guttman Delayed the move, lied about the cause, spoke rudely, tried to add fuel charges, false weighing

Our move is still ongoing, and we have experienced mental distress throughout the move till now. We have had several moves in the past, and this has been the worst and a true unending nightmare.

We were contacted by a moving consultant Jacque Cole, who asked us to give an estimate of the weight by calling any move consultant for an in-house inspection. We called a very reputed national company to do an in-house inspection in our home at Metrowest Massachussets, and got an itemized weight estimate. We then gave the estimate to Jacque Cole, received a non-binding quote, and fixed the moving date of June 27.

On June 26th, at 9 pm, we received a call from David ([email protected], 201-420-6425), telling us that the truck will be there at 7 am in the morning of June 27. We were up at 4 am to prepare for the move, but nobody came. At 10 am, David called again and said that they will now come between noon and 2 pm. At 2 pm, David called again and said that the truck will come between 5 pm and 7 pm. The truck came at 5 pm, with 6 men and David. David asked us to sign a paper saying that we are liable to pay additional fuel charges - even though Jacque had told us clearly that their company never puts additional fuel charges unlike many other companies. When we refused, he became very rude.

David had come with a 28 feet truck which already was almost full with two other prior moves. His men worked for 3 hours to pack our kitchen and family room items, and to load that onto the truck. They also packed some of our formal dining room furniture excluding China, and our formal living room furniture, and left it at the house, because there was no more space in the truck. David said they will come back again on June 28 at 7 am. We asked to be present at the weighing center for weighing the items loaded, which had been estimated at 3000 pounds by the certified estimator who had visited our home. David said that the truck will be weighed at MASSPIKE, and then our items will be taken off at their warehouse in New York city, and then the truck will be weighed again. He said that we will have to go with him to New York if we want to be present when weighing is done, and that if we do so, then we will not be there when they come next day at 7 am to pack and take the rest of the stuff. Thus, they made it impossible to check the weight.

Next day, nobody came at 7 am. We were told that the men are on their way and will come at 10 am. When we called at 10 am, we were told that they will come at 2 pm. At 2 pm, we were told that they will come at 5 pm. At 5 pm, when we called, John ([email protected], 201-420-6426) picked up and said that they will now come only next day. When we told him that we have to leave in the morning of June 29 for a flight to california (where we are moving to), and that a new occupant will be moving in the morning, John said very rudely that we should change our flight and that the new occupant should be asked to move in the afternoon. John told us that their nearest truck is in New Jersey, and they will finish there by 10 pm, and will be able to come to Metrowest, MASS only by 4 am. He gave a time window of 4 am to 7 am for the truck to come to our house.

Next day, on June 29, nobody came by 7 am. When we called, we were told that their truck left the warehouse at 3.30 am, and should be there in 30 minutes. At 8 am, we were told that the truck has reached MA, and should be there shortly. At 9 am, we were told that there is a big accident on Masspike which is on tv and because of ambulences, MASSPIKE has been closed for 3 hours, and only one lane is open. As such, they will be able to come only by noon or so. We immediately checked the internet traffic report, and found no accident and the traffic on masspike was fully normal. We called them again and this time Jacque picked up, and said that the real story is that they are overwhelmed with the large no. Of bookings they have done and are short of men and trucks.

David and three of the six men finally came at 1.30 pm. The three men told us that they had worked full day on June 27, and had reached New York in the morning of June 28, and therefore taken the day off on June 28. And, that they had started at 8 am on June 29, and had come after lunch to our home.

The three men finished packing and loading the truck at 1.30 am on June 30, and left. We took the flight on June 30 morning to reach California. On June 1, we received a call from John, and then from David, saying that the stuff loaded on June 27 weighed at 11,000 pounds, and that loaded on June 29 weighed 14,000 pounds, for a total of 25000 pounds. The certified moving consultant who visited our house had estimated this to be half of that, at approx. 12000 pounds.

We asked John and David for an accurate weighing in our presence, or in presence of our representative, either in New York at their warehouse or in California. However, John and David have been very rude and saying that they have certified weight and we will have to pay by that. We asked to speak to Jacque, who had told us that she will be our point contact person throughout and after the move, but John and David very rudely told us that Jacque is just a sales consultant and had been removed from our file and will not talk to us. We then send an email to Jacque, and called again and fortunately found Jacque on the other side. Jacque said she will look at the inventory list once again, because the trailer must leave for California on July 3 morning.

It is July 2nd night, and we still do not have any confirmation on reweighing. We are being asked to pay half the revised new amount (which is double the initial estimate of approx. $6200), pending further review of the paperwork. Based on our prior moves, and the in house inspection from a reputed moving firm, we are confident that our stuff can not simply weigh 25000 pounds.

We do not know when we will receive our stuff in California, until when we will have to stay at the hotel while our stuff does not come, and the impact it will have on our ability to join our new jobs productively, and whether our stuff will come in good shape - after all this experience.

We ask Jacob Guttman to help sort this out by weighing our items in our presence (we are willing to fly to New York or send our representative to verify the weighing). We are willing to pay based on actual true weight of our items.
