I checked my bank statement today and saw that there was a charge for 79.95 labeled as CIC Credit Monitoring SVC. Since I did not recognize this I looked it up on the internet. I found out that many people, like myself, had received charges for a FREE credit report. The charge occurred on August 22. Several weeks prior to that, in July I had signed up on Equifax for a free credit report.in no way did I realize that I was going to receive this charge.
Why would a nationally known credit reporting company allow this "rip off" company to hide in the background and allow charges to consumers who innocently believe that they were receiving a free copy of their own credit report? This simply outrages me! Because my account is a debit rather than credit account, my bank will not reverse the charge. I have tried calling the phone number 877-513-4175 multiple times and have been unable to get through.
