I received a bill from DirecTV stating I owed them 80.03 on an overdue account. I called the local DirecTV call center in Boise, where we were able to determine that the alleged person who owes the bill has the same name but a different phone number, physical address and SSN. I told DirecTV that I had never used their services and was told that the matter would be taken care of, now that they knew they had the wrong person. The call center representative told me that they sent out letters to everyone with the same name in hopes of finding the person(s) who owed the bill. I never gave this another thought; matter resolved.
Wrong!
Today I received a collection notice from the Law Offices of Mitchell N. Kay for the 80.03 owed to DirecTV! Deciding something smelled rotten, I did a search on Mr. Kay's name, and lo and behold, his name led me to this site. I WILL be contacting the Attorney General of Idaho, the Better Business Bureau, and all credit reporting agencies to get this resolved.
