I'm writing this report on behalf of my church, Templo La Hermosa in San Jose, CA.
We hired Doodley Construction (aka Travis Gaffney) to do a remodel on our church facility. The work consisted of new windows, adding air conditioning, remodeling our bathrooms, and upgrading our fellowship hall.in April of Mr. Gaffney came to our facility, inspected everything, then contacted me a few days later with an estimate for the work to be done.
Inititially, everything began fine as he said that the work would be completed within 90 days of starting. However, it's the end of September of and we are still worshipping in a construction zone. Please, do yourself a favor and do not hire Travis Gaffney!
Here is an abbreviated list of items:
#1- We were falsly led to believe that he had obtained a permit for the work that was to be done to our facility. Yes, he began a major church remodel with NO PERMIT. It's 9 and as of yet, he has been unable to obtain a permit with the city of San Jose (which he was hired to do).
#2- Because of the above stated fraud, and the timeline that was given to us, we paid upwards of 70k for work and materials, which we paid ahead of time to ensure quick completion. He scammed a church out of its savings.
#3- In December, Mr. Gaffney tried to extort our church of an additional 75k in funds, stating that we would be red tagged if we did not comply. At that time, we sought professional help in resolving with this issue. During the summer months, he was VERY hard to get a hold of, ignoring several messages to his cell phone and home.
#4- The Church filed a complaint with the State of California Contractor License Board, and it was discovered that a) Mr. Gaffney already had complaints upon a NEW license he recieved in July and that b) he was actually unlicensed at the time we hired him (he was using false credentials)
#5- At the urging of the State of California, Mr. Gaffney began again the project after several months of doing NOTHING. He made several promises to complete the project, worked on some plans for about a month, and then dropped off the radar again. Why? The check he made to the City of San Jose bounced, and the plans he submitted were incomplete.
#6- At the present, we are working with a business partner of his to try and resolve this issue, as Mr. Gaffney has irresponsibely taken jobs without even telling his associates. We are hoping to FINALLY get this done, going on 2 years into the project.
We've been damaged beyond believe, from losing wedding services to trying and accomodate 150 persons into using 1 bathroom facility in our services. It's been a complete nightmare, all thanks to Doodley Construction Company.
Please, do yourself a favor, and do NOT EVEN THINK of using this man or his services. The picture of Templo La Hermosa on his website www.doodleyconstruction.com is NOT EVEN OUR CHURCH!!! At present, his license is suspended. Do not trust this individual to do what he promises he will.
