I am a 20 yr old single mom of a 6 month old baby. I worked for Walgreens for 1yr and 7 months. I work hard and loved my job, managers knew they didn't have to ask me to do things, I would do it without being told, and was promoted a few times. I went to work on Wed, and the cosmetic dept head told me there were trial size scope bottles missing. She asked if I would help her look for them, which I did but we didn't find anything. WEll I went in to work the next day thurs and punched in, worked for 45 mintues. Then I was called in to the office where my two male managers and the loss prevention guy chad was there. Chad asked me if I had a drinking problem or was an alcholic? I was appalled, and said no, why? He said because I had been stealing scope to get drunk. I was interrogated for 1 1/2 hours. They told me to just admit it., there was a video proving I did it. They showed me a video but it just showed me near a scope display. Which god, I work at the store there could've been a lot of reasons why I was near there. They said it was suspicious and then it showed me going around the corner. They said when I went around the corner is when I stole it. I said show me the other camera that is down the other aisle then and it will show I didn't steal anything. He told me come on, I don't have to show you that. You know you did it. Just admit it. They tried to have me make a statement that I did it. I wouldn't do it. He told me if I could admit it, not be prosecuted and pay for the scope and be fired, or I could not admit it, and be blamed for other things that were missing, like digital camera, money short from the tills and be prosecuted, have a warrant out for my arrest, and go to prison and be taken aways from my son. I told them I will not admit to anything I didn't do. Finally, they told me to leave. I begged them to investigate further, that I didn't steal anything. They said the scope was missing between 12 - 3 and I was by the display at 12:35. I begged them to look at the video for the whole 3 hours. THey would see I was innocent. Chad said he would investigate further but only to build a case against me, not to help me. They told me to go home and call back at 10 am. I called back and was told I was fired from my manager for theft. HOw is that possible, when I didn't steal anything, and there is no prrof. Is that even legal? I mean I know you can get fired for anything in the state of nh, but can they put you on a do not hire list, and blackball your name for theft with no proof. The managers and cosmetic dept head are telling other employees that there is video fo me stealing. That's an outright lie. There is nothing, because I didn't steal. I even went to the police dept, and they told me not charges have been filed and that in order to prosecute Walgreens needs to have proof. The officer said Walgreens has a really extensive video camera setup. Well they didn't actually prosecute, DUH! Cause they didn't have any proof whatsover. Now I am going to lose my apartment because I no longer have a job, but worse I can't get one! Walgreens was my only job, and no other drug store company will hire me because my name is black balled. My mother went in to pick up my last paycheck, and my manager tried to talk to her, and said she was my best worker. My mom said she'd rather not talk to him. He shook his head and said "if you saw what I saw". My mom said, you didn't see her stealing anything that is why you aren't prosecuting. He told her no, Walgreens doesn't work that way. It would cost too much money for them to prosecute me. That is bull crap, they don't have any evidence that is why. But it is okay to ruin my life, and leave me jobless for god knows how long. I need a job!!! I live paycheck to paycheck and don't know what to do. I certainly couldn't pursue any legal matter against them without money. I wish I could sue, and have a lawyer work on contingency of me getting some sort of settlement. Is this legal in NH for them to put me on this list without proof???
