The Garysson Group
A Cydcor subsidiary, put my boyfriend and I in financial trouble

My boyfriend started working for The Garysson Group on April 1st 2009 (April 1st... Huh, should've figured). He was given all sorts of information stating that he would be paid so much money selling Verizon landline products to small/medium sized businesses, and that this was a great opportunity where he could be making a 6 figure salary in 2-3 years and own his own office. Little did we know, he was being lied to.
My boyfriend started out with 3 days of training where he A) found out that he would be doing door to door sales in the Pittsburgh area; and B) he would make $200, and then another $200 if he passed the training test. (Sidenote: The computer test had a Cydcor logo on the program.) Well, he passed the test, and when it came time for his first paycheck, it was only $150, which turned out to be $130 after taxes. So, I nagged him to ask his boss about it, and he did. His boss said "I'll look into it." It's been a month and we still haven't seen the rest of the $250 he was promised.
He looked passed this little hiccup thinking that his boss really was taking care of it, and began to venture out on his own doing door to door sales where he got yelled at all the time, and the cops were called on him twice. He tried to tell people that he was there to help them and that he was a part of Verizon Business' new customer service program because that's what he really thought was going on. Turns out, my boyfriend had unknowingly illegally solicited. The Garysson Group is NOT Verizon. They are a Cydcor subsidiary that pretends to be Verizon, while getting businesses to upgrade their services or switch to Verizon. (Sidenote: If these reps were able to save people money, they would tack things on like security which costs extra just so they got a bigger commission. My boyfriend was always getting questioned on why he didn't add things on.) If you see one of these "reps" walk into your office, ask to read the fine print on their customer forms that state the rep is NOT affiliated with Verizon. (Always read the fine print before you sign!!!)
So my boyfriend continued to work there, even though he was harassed by tons of business owners saying they were screwed over not too long ago by a young kid in a suit saying the same things he was. He tried really hard at the job, and a few good things to come out of it was that he got experience at training new hires in a classroom environment, his confidence was raised, and he learned how to better handle customers. However, this job ended up giving us financial difficulty.
When the paycheck after the training pay came up, he got nothing. That's right, he didn't even get a paycheck for the 2 sales he did that week. He even showed his boss, and his boss said he'd look into it. Once again, he was probably just saying that to get my boyfriend not to nag him or question him.
My boyfriend put so many miles on our car in that month. We literally spent so much money in gas it's ridiculous. He was putting $20 in the tank every 2 days. (Do the math, kids. 30 days / every 2 days = 10 times he filled the tank in 1 month. $20 * 10 = $200) Yeah, that's right $200 dollars in gas alone. That's not including the lunches and drinks he had to buy when the lunches I packed him just weren't enough because he walked around a lot. He'd get really dehydrated, and he'd need something to drink. Or sweating off the calories in the hot sun wearing a business suit made him a little hungrier (or sick to his stomach depending on the temperature).
So, my grandmother asked how his job was going, I explained all of the shady things that had been happening, so she does a little research. She finds usacomplaints.com, and saw that someone else had wrote about The Garysson Group. I tell my boyfriend, so we go on together and read the article. We then look up Cydcor, and we see so many stories of how people were put in the same situation that we were.
My boyfriend decided to stick it out a little longer until he found a new job, but after receiving a paycheck which he believed was going to be about $400 because of all the sales he made, finally, and noticed that it was only $122, he came to the conclusion that he couldn't even financially go to work there anymore.
Now our bank account is negative because of this company. And would you like to know how I know? Because my boyfriend was previously not working because The Garysson Group (he was tired of getting screwed around at his old job so he left to look for a better opportunity), and while he didn't have a job, we were able to live off of my paychecks alone. But all of a sudden, The Garysson Group decides they want to give us false hopes for a great future, but fantasy is always better than reality, and here's the reality of our situation:
He made a total of $240 after taxes. He spent $200 (minimum, prices are on the rise) in gas, and not to mention spent probably $60 in buying little extra things (which wouldn't be an issue if he were getting paid for things that he was supposed to be getting paid for). So, we literally lost a minimum of $20 by him working at The Garysson Group. Oh, make that more since we had to buy him suits for work. (Yay for Target being cheap, but their kind of cheap is $250 for 2 suit separates, a dress shirt, and new shoes)

Let me just sum this up for you: The Garysson Group is actually part of Cydcor (look up Cydcor and all their subsidiaries, you can find them here and even Google Search). What they do is con customers into letting them handle their arrangements (in this case it was Verizon). They'll try to help you save money, but in actuality, they'll end up tacking things on, and they'll never go to the business afterward because they know they screwed that person over. The boss does NOT make a 6 figure salary, if he did, the office building wouldn't be so shady and he'd be driving a nicer car. And the boss gets a cut of what everyone beneath him makes, and that type of cut trickles down the system so that people underneath the boss get a cut of whatever someone beneath them makes. It's like a pyramid... Food for thought.

So do yourselves a favor, if you don't believe me, then do your research. Because the only way to truly make money in this company is if you're willing to lose your friends and family (because they like to keep their employees at the office for much longer than necessary, believe me, my boyfriend's shift was "over" at 5, but he didn't get out of work until AT LEAST 5:30 most nights), if you're willing to screw over hardworking people, and if someone else is paying your bills for the first several years until you become manager. And by that point, you'd still probably be better off working at Burger King.
