Appliance repair contract called for 15% discount on all parts & labor. A repair job for a failed electric range top burner element was verbally estimated at $200-$400 parts plus labor. A written estimate was requested THREE different times. No written estimate was given. A certified letter was not picked up.
I arranged for delivery of the broken electrical element directly to me. The most expensive RETAIL cost of the element was $115. I was able to get the part for $80.87 wholesale including shipping. It took only 12 minutes to install the part from the time I arrived at the house until I left. The range top now works perfectly.
The ripoff was the horribly inflated price I was quoted, the questionable business practice of refusing to give a written estimate and the refusing of a certified letter.
