I placed an order with Mom's Cigars online on April 1 or 2, as I have many times before. I received a call at home yesterday from them asking for a returned call regarding a pricing change. When I returned that call today, I was told that the prices on one of the items that I ordered was no longer valid and that it had increased by 33%. I was told that, in order for them to ship this order, I would have to pay this increased price. I checked the website today, April 7, and noted that the item remains priced as it was when I ordered it and has not been updated to reflect this new price. I was told by the representative at Mom's that this increased price reflected a new tax.
In the "terms" section of the company's website, it states that "prices may change without notice due to manufacurer increases." I can understand this, if a manufacturer unexpectedly increases a price after a retail order has been shipped. However, in this case, this increase was not due to manufacturer increase, but a tax increase. This has not take place unexpectedly, as the tobacco industry has been aware of this impending increase for months.in my opinion, I and other Mom's customers are being asked to pay the price for the company's tardiness in updating their website. This is unacceptable and, I think, unethical.
